Name: Okaran
Classification: Alternative
Homeworld: Okara
Coloration: Pale Green
Biology: The Okarans were a species that were more than likely humanoid in nature, seemingly being hairless with coarse pale green skin that was lightest around their faces while growing darker near the tops of their heads. They possessed upturned chins, as well as a thick ridge starting at their cheeks and running around the sides and backs of their heads, a small protrusion exposed beneath the ridge on the upper sides of their necks, potentially serving as aural organs. They also possessed sharp cheekbones, pronounced brows, rounded noses with slightly outturned nostrils, and solid black, glassy eyes.
Lore: The Okarans were a species native to a world known as Okara, discovered and introduced into the galaxy sometime prior to or during the reign of the Galactic Empire. It seems some of those dwelling on Okara held anti-Imperial sentiments or potential connections to the Rebel Alliance, though it is unclear if this included the native population or just outsiders, such as the blue humanoid, Avnee, who has come to live among them.
Continuity: Very interestingly, the Okarans are actually a species planned to appear in an earlier iteration of the acclaimed Star Wars television series “Andor,” seemingly abandoned sometime fairly early on into the series’ production and only revealed when the show’s artbook came out. As such everything we know about them comes from what little the BTS book gives us, and obviously, not appearing in the show, they fall under cut non-canon content.
Unexplored: Being a cut species with no actual established lore, I can genuinely say, “everything.” All the info in both “Biology” and “Lore” was taken from concept art and old scripts, so even it isn’t set in stone. Anything and everything can be changed, so I won’t go into any specific questions in this section for now, just keep in mind our usual list of general worldbuilding traits in case you decide you want to do something with the Okarans sometime in the future!
Additional Notes: This is a pretty unique situation for a species like this as usually cut stuff like these never get named or fleshed out. Was very glad we got some info in the artbook, and given they were fleshed out a bit behind the scenes, even going so far as receiving a realized bust courtesy of Luke D. Fisher, I do believe there may be a chance for them to appear in something someday down the line. Just need to keep our eyes and ears out in case they do, as its a pretty neat, very classic “alien” design with an admittedly fascinating OOU backstory!
