Name: Borneck
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Vellity
Coloration: Yellow, Orange, or Brown
Biology: The Bornecks were a nearly Human-passing sentient species found in the Star Wars galaxy. As such, they were visually nearly identical to Humans in seemingly every way, possessing the same general height, weight, build, frame, and features. Where they differed was primarily from what we’re aware was in their coloration, with Bornecks pigmentation ranging from yellow, to orange, to orange-brown, meaning they were generally not confused for Humans visually, though it was still occasionally possible.
The species also possessed a somewhat longer average lifespan than the average Human, often living up to 120 galactic standard years, if not longer. Otherwise, they possessed the same abilities as Humans, including the ability to clearly pronounce Galactic Basic, and seemingly be Force Sensitive, though it is believed they had naturally calm yet determined temperaments. It has also been established that they could produce hybrid offspring with Humans, potentially hinting at a shared ancestry or history of being a Human offshoot.
Lore: The Bornecks hailed from the planet Vellity, a fertile farming world found within the Mid Rim’s Trax Sector. The species was relatively unassuming, with they or their homeworld never being pulled into any notable galactic conflicts or events. They were a relatively withdrawn people, content with their farming lifestyles. They were hard workers who valued productivity just as much as they valued community. They were close-knit pacifists who abhorred conflict, and attempted to spread peace wherever they went, with seemingly great success.
Family units were important, with young Bornecks taught strong work ethics and many life skills from a very young age, practical information always being prioritized in education over technical or philosophical. Still, Bornecks also appreciated holidays, and understood the importance of rest and morale-boosting activities. After gaining access to spacefaring technologies sometime long before the rise of the Galactic Empire, some members of the species took to the stars, many migrating to a nearby agriworld known as “Draenell’s Point” while a fair few others became freelance pilots.
Continuity: The Bornecks currently only exist within the Star Wars EU, featured in source books every once in a while but never utilized all that much within the franchise, especially from specifically story material, as well as never receiving a colored illustration.
Unexplored: There actually aren’t that many pressing questions surrounding the Bornecks given their very simple existence, which means this section will be a bit more simple than usual as well. I suppose the biggest ideas still worth exploring include when the Bornecks were first discovered, by whom, and if they were ever approached by any galactic powers, peoples, or groups for membership or alliances? Did they share a common ancestor to Humans, were they potentially a closely-related Human offshoot/subspecies, or were they the product of convergent evolution like seemingly many other near-Humans in the galaxy?
What sorts of crops did they produce, and did they also farm livestock, or did that go against their peaceful beliefs? And who exactly purchased their produce? Were they ever pulled into any notable events, past present, or future? And I guess, finally, what would they look like in different mediums, just re-colored Humans, or did they actually have additional differences, externally or otherwise (and would/should/could there be any further changes should they ever be brought into Canon)?
Additional Notes: What really is there to say about the Bornecks? I guess it’s nice not having to write about some great tragedy that characterized a species for once, but like, I can’t say they’re the pinnacle of creativity either. Conflict breeds intrigue, so without it, there isn’t much desire to want to learn more. Obviously, I’m sure there was conflict in their long history, something obviously had to instigate their pacifism, but with so little lore surrounding them, there really isn’t much that makes me interested to see a future for the species.
Hopefully, if they are ever brought into Canon, whichever creator(s) decided to do so can inject some new life into their existence, and again, I’m not totally opposed to a species that just exists, does everything right, and gets a happy ending, I just also don’t feel they should be at the top of the priority list for the many, many Legends species still to be canonized. Instead, I suppose I’m more for letting them live out their happy days in the peaceful abyss that is the plethora of obscure EU sources, should nothing more compelling ever come their way.
