Biology: Syboonas are an alternative species we’ve seen within the Star Wars galaxy. They stood slightly shorter than that of the average humanoid, with a fairly thin body. Their thick, hairless skin was also purplish-blue in coloration and leathery in texture. They had massive, four-toed feet with huge, black claws, and similar four-fingered hands, again with the sharp talons. Syboonas had slim frames, and no real neck. Their elongated head extended outward from their shoulders, with two tall pointed ears located on the top back, small red or yellow eyes found on either side, and a mouth located at the end of their snout, with a pointed, discolored upper lip that drooped over their bottom one.

Lore: Very little was ever revealed about the Syboona as a species. They were known by the Galactic Republic prior to the Clone Wars, although we do not know whether they were actually a part of the Republic, nor who or what they were allied with. They also often wore ornate clothing, indicating that they might have been a rather wealthy species. Although they were also rarely seen with advanced technologies, potentially hinting towards them still being somewhat primitive. At least one, Knire Dark, was a criminal and podracer found in the Outer Rim, but we never learned whether she was a deviant, or a strong indication of what her species was normally like.

Legends/Canon: The Syboonas are exclusive to Star Wars Legends, yet to be referenced in any Canon media.

Unexplored: With the Syboonas being as mysterious as they are, there’s still quite a bit that requires fleshing out. That is if they ever make their way into Canon, and if everything we’ve already learned about them remains intact. If that happens, then we need to explore their homeworld of Syboona more in-depth. We also need to see what their species as a whole is like, how their government, allegiances, society, culture, and economy worked and operated. It would be great to get more information about their history, traditions, development, habits, religion, and similar traits. And it would even be good to get additional illustrations or a better look at their anatomy.

Additional Notes: There’s definitely an interesting design here, but I just wish that they had given us a little bit more of their backstory. Now that they are stuck in the limbo that is Star Wars Legends, it’s unclear whether we will get that exploration. Still, it looks like they put a lot of work into establishing Knire Dark into a unique and memorable character, with a lot of concept notes existing regarding her (and the Syboonas) design, outfit, and even staff (which never made it into the “Star Wars: Racer Revenge game that they were featured in). So there is hope and a desire to have the Syboonas recognized, and if they are Canonized, I will be the first to let you know!
