Jashwik

Name: Jashwik

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human/Alternative

Homeworld: Jashwa

Coloration: Orange or Brown

Biology: The Jashwiks were a fairly near-Human species who were actually related to the much more popular Sullustan species, although there were some differences between the two species. From the neck down, the Jashwik were surprisingly similar to that of Humans, albeit with longer, pointier fingers, a broader chest, and usually skin that was much more orange in coloration. However, their heads were vastly different, being much wider and more bulbous than many species’ heads, and sporting a large, overlapping upper lip very similar to that found on Sullustans. They also had pointed ears, elongated earlobes, small upturned noses, large eyes with tiny black pupils, and sizeable foreheads.

There was noticeable sexual dimophism between male and female Jashwiks, with the male being larger, taller, and possessing white hair both on top of their head and under their chin. Females were shorter, and often possessed no hair, although some could grow hair only on the top of their head. Jashwiks had the capacity to pronounce Galactic Basic. They were also seemingly capable of breeding with Sullustans, as well as potentially with Humans or other Human-like species. Jashwiks were known for sweating most of the time, which helped regulate their body temperature. And they had a naturally high midichlorian-count, enough for most of them to be Force Sensitive, but not quite enough to make many adept enough to become Jedi.

Lore: The Jashwiks were a species known by the galaxy by the start of the Clone Wars, often just as the cousin species of the Sullustans. Compared to their relative species, the Jashwiks were far less powerful and popular, although the two species appeared to share a good relationship. Still, the Jashwiks were seemingly a rather prosperous species, owning things like the Wheel Space Station and the City of Dreams. They were also highly religious, with a unique connection to the Force that allowed most to feel it but few to truly harness it. It is unclear whether or not they were allied with any major faction, but at least a few joined up with the Rebellion while others suffered at the hands of the Galactic Empire.

Legends/Canon: The Jashwiks have yet to appear in any Canon media, currently only featured in media from early Star Wars Legends (much of which was actually retconned, leaving their status even within the EU unknown).

Unexplored: The Jashwiks lore, while unique, still leaves much to be desired. To really set them apart from the already iconic Sullustans, there is a lot that we need to dive into, especially if they are ever brought into Canon with their current early lore intact. Questions to ask include: When did the Jashwiks first split off from the Sullustans? What sort of services or exports did the Jaskwiks offer? What factions or groups were they associated with? What was Jashwa like? What sort of religious practices and traditions did they have? And what was their connection to the Force like? Did they have any natural abilities, or could they only feel it flowing through them? How many Jashwik Jedi/Sith/Force Users were there, and what were their thoughts and beliefs regarding all of those concepts?

Additional Notes: This is definitely a little known species, and one that was abandoned pretty early on into the EU. An idea of a species related to the Sullustans is pretty neat, but I wish they had done more with it! I would love to see how both species interact, as well as how similar or different the Jashwiks would look compared to the Sullustans in live action. I don’t see this one at the top of the list for being Canonized, as they’re just knockoff Sullustans which might be confusing for less dedicated fans. However, I’m still vying for their resurgence someday, and I hope they receive the attention they originally deserved when it finally happens!
