Name: Constancian

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Constancia

Coloration: Cream, White, and/or Orange

Biology: The Constancians were an almost Human-passing species, possessing the same general height, weight, build, frame, and features as the average Human, though there were certain details regarding their appearance that one could consider to be slightly… off. They usually had much larger eyes than those of Humans, with large, black pupils. Compared to Humans, their ears were also slightly smaller, their upper lips slightly more pronounced, and the foreheads often taller. Described as commonly being child-like in appearance, they generally came across as unassuming yet uncanny, though certain individuals, usually female, could be much more Human-like to the point of nearly being indistinguishable, despite the ever-lingering unsettling aspects of their slightly “misaligned” features. The more Human-like a Constancian, the more solid their eyes were in coloration, almost completely lacking white sclera as opposed to their much more juvenile-looking counterparts.

Here is where a design discrepancy comes into play regarding their coloration, as they have been “depicted” two very different ways. Either Constancians had solid white hair, pale skin, and blue irises in their eyes, or they had orange-brown skin, bright orange hair, and golden eyes. This continuity issue comes down to the fact that the species debuted in a black and white newspaper comic strip which has apparently been reinterpreted a few different ways across time. It would seem the former description is the more widely accepted, however, and lends more to their ability to occasionally pass for Humans. Across all versions, we do know the species could pronounce Galactic Basic Standard, they produced young the same way as Humans, and they were all telepathic, whether due to the Force (and a high baseline Midi-chlorian count) or some other source or factor.

Lore: The Constancians were a relatively new addition to the galactic collective, with their homeworld of Constancia being extensively explored only sometime after 1000 BBY but before the collapse of the Galactic Empire. Found within the galaxy’s Deep Core, the ringed planet Constancia was surprisingly developed, covered in expansive manufactured planes and innumerable massive towers, citadels, and other winding structures. Constancians generally valued peace, progress, and spirituality, with close-knit families and communities who commonly partied together, and who all wore very similar, if not identical clothing. Despite this, they also had dedicated warrior families, who were proud of their lineages, training their children to follow in their footsteps and passing along specialized battle armors (despite their emphasis of family, there is no evidence that Constancians used surnames, instead going by simple, single names like “Sharlee” and “Gamine”). Additionally, Constancians were very welcoming, accepting all to their homeworld, including representatives of the Rebel Alliance, as well as a fair number of Zeltron settlers who grew Constancia’s population fairly exponentially (upwards of 100 million by 25 ABY).

Continuity: Though the Constancians have yet to be canonized, their homeworld, Constancia, has been canonically mentioned a handful of times, meaning it’s most likely only a matter of time.

Unexplored: We know the general gist surrounding this species, but there are still quite a few details we’re lacking which is what we’ll be exploring in this section. What year exactly were the Constancians discovered, was it by the Galactic Republic or some other group (or individual), and had they actually been found prior to the exploration of the world after 1000 BBY? What did the species first think of the outside galaxy, and were they already well established prior to their discovery or did they have a technological boom afterward? What caused them to seemingly terraform much of their planet’s surface, and why did they develop the towering architecture that they did, was it beneficial for the planet’s environment, the result of religious beliefs, due to rampant creativity, or potentially some other reason? And jumping back in time, when did the Constancians first develop sentience, what sort of creature did they evolve from, why do they look so much like Humans, but also why did they develop the slight differences unlike a lot of other near-Humans?

Did the Constancians ever have any major alliances with galactic governments, groups, corporations, peoples, or planets? On that note, did they have any major enemies, or what else warranted the long lineages of warrior families trained to be enthusiastic defender-killers? Did they ever travel out among the stars to become bodyguards or contract killers, or did they exist only to serve their own kind? Did the Constancians ever officially join up with the Rebel Alliance, whether as soldiers or in a support role? And we know they were thriving by 25 ABY, but what happened to them in the eras afterwards? Alongside these many lore-related questions, what would the Constancians look like in different art styles or mediums, and should there be any additional differences between their Legends and Canon iterations? And speaking of iterations, which color variation is the true one in-universe, the pale appearance or the orange one? Can both exist, or is one expressly not supposed to be?

Additional Notes: Despite their relatively simple existence, I do actually want to see the species make the jump to Canon, almost entirely just so the character Sharlee can be canonized as well, as, while doing research for this species, I came to love her existence and over-the-top heart-themed armor! Speaking of my research, it took me a fair bit to track down the comic strip this species exclusively hails from. I was excited when I finally did come across a copy of at least some of the pages on the web, and I wish some of these old, obscure comics could be much more accessible. Makes me wish for some sort of official free Star Wars digital library, but I guess I’m getting distracted. Back to the Constancians, I’d be down to see them in something soon, I feel they’d actually be quite memorable in live action with their slightly unsettling appearance. Unfortunately, I really don’t see this happening in the foreseeable future, but I’ll continue to keep y’all updated, just in case I’m wrong!
