Name: Jumurra
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Simian/Near-Human
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Tan
Biology: The Jumurra were a humanoid simian-like species who shared the same general height, weight, build, and frame as the average Human. With two arms and two legs, the species was bipedal, possessing five-fingered hands. Their flesh was tan and wrinkled, especially when venerable. They had pronounced brows, with bushy eyebrows situated above sunken eyes that were brown with black pupils. They also had upturned noses that attached directly into drooping jowl flaps which flanked their mouths and hung down over their cheeks, ending near their jawline. The species had tall foreheads, as well as large ears situated on the back sides of their heads. It is unclear how tall their craniums were, potentially being more elongated than those found on Humans. The Jumurra seemed capable of pronouncing Galactic Basic, and presumably held the capacity to be Force Sensitive based off of what we’ve observed so far.
Lore: Little to nothing is currently known about the Jumurra, aside from the fact that they had been discovered some time prior to the mid High Republic era. One member of the species, Naasa, became an elder within the infamous dark side witch coven on the planet Brendok.
Continuity: The Jumurra are a species exclusive to Star Wars Canon, debuting within the first season of the “The Acolyte” television series.
Unexplored: Given how little info we have about the species currently, it’s fairly difficult to pose unique questions regarding their existence, so we’ll keep this section simple for now. For starters, when did the species develop sentience, from what creature did they evolve from, what caused them to develop into their modern iteration, and on what world did they hail from? When were the Jumurra first discovered, and by whom? As a whole, did the species have any major allegiances, alliances, memberships within governments such as the Galactic Republic, or even rivals or enemies? Were they ever influential within any major galactic events, or affected by any major galactic conflicts? What happened to the species post-High Republic, and were they very spread out, potentially with a dwindling population, or were they plentiful, primarily still found across their homeworld? Alongside some of these ideas, we can always apply our usual list of generic worldbuilding concept questions to the species, as they are lacking across nearly all fields of lore.
Additional Notes: This is a fascinating species in the fact that there were so many theories regarding what they could be prior to their name being officially revealed. I saw people bring up species such as the Sullustans, Klatooinians, Weequay, and Ongiade, speculating that this could just be an incredibly old instance of these various established races. It was a pretty big surprise then when, on the starwars.com “Database” of all places, they randomly dropped this species’ name, something that almost never happens, at least not as long as I’ve been documenting sentients. Either way, I am always thrilled to see designs like this get ID’d as it means I can officially write about them, even if, as you can see, there is little substance to include as of the initial posting of the article. I’m sure more will be revealed in the coming days!
