Name: Mournish
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Alternative
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Pink
Biology: The Mournish were a sentient species with an appearance very similar to the much more well-known Nautolans, though unlike their popular peers, the Mournish were not an aquatic species as far as we are aware. The species had the same general height, weight, frame, and build as the average Human (or Nautolan), being bipedal with two arms and two legs, as well as five-fingered hands. They were a hairless species, with skin that could be bright pink in coloration, with darker pink mottled spots on top of their head. Mournish faces were fairly Human-like, though their eyes were glassy and solid black. The species also possessed pointed ears, as well as a number of large, pointed tendrils extending out and down from the back of their heads. It’s believed these tendrils served as extra-sensory organs, however this has yet to be fully confirmed. Mournish had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic Standard.
Lore: Currently we have no knowledge regarding the collective Mournish species, only knowing they had been discovered and introduced into the greater galaxy as of the High Republic era.
Continuity: The Mournish are exclusive to Star Wars Canon, first being introduced within the “The High Republic” multimedia event.
Unexplored: Since we literally have no basis for the lore surrounding this species, the best I can do at the moment is list out some of our usual worldbuilding traits which I feel are necessary, or at the very least would be beneficial, in understanding the Mournish. These concepts include the species’ homeworld, origins, evolution, environments, anatomy, biology, diets, languages, development, history, architecture, discovery, advancements, allegiances, politics, governments, economy, exports, society, culture, reputation, philosophies, religions, traditions, habits, practices, etc. Receiving some more illustrations or depictions across various media would definitely help as well in the long run!
Additional Notes: I noted this on Twitter/X already, but there is a character from the “Star Wars (2020)” comic run named “Brith” who is fairly similar in appearance, though they have smaller but more numerous head tendrils and they’re green. I think this is worth noting given how closely the Brith and our only known Mournish, Ambar, debuted, however there’s also reasons to believe they may not be the same. Anyway, definitely not the most unique species, head tendrils are becoming the new “colorful Human” standard trait, but I still hope we’ll see more of them someday that will better set them apart from the similar races in a meaningful way!
