Name: Fiumarian
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human/Alternative
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Pink
Biology: The Fiumarians were a relatively near-Human species, though they possessed enough distinct traits to seem alien. They had the same general height, weight, frame, and build as the standard Human, seemingly standing around 1.8 meters tall on average. They possessed pale pink, hairless skin that seemed relatively smooth in texture. The species had large, five-digit hands, with long fingers that ended in sharp points but lacked true nails or claws.
Their craniums were slightly larger than that of normal Humans, with protruding bones where many species’ ears would be. They also had sharp jawlines, prominent brows, and a slight point on the upper back side of their skull. Fiumarian teeth were filled with sharp, white teeth, and their eyes were solid white as well. The species was known both for their enhanced intellect and rationale, as well as their surprising agility, flexibility, and speed. Their internals were also primarily yellow due to the mustard coloration of their blood. They also had the capacity to pronounce Galactic Basic Standard.
Lore: Little is known about the Fiumarians, including where they originated from. What we do know is that they were valued for their intelligence, possessing almost psychopathic mindsets, with the ability to disassociate themselves from any debate and remain a neutral party if they so desired. This made them skilled in political settings, and it was common for them to serve as diplomats on others’ behalf. They could also be found as smugglers, information brokers, and in other shady lines of work. They seemed to operate some sort of loose intelligence network by the later stages of the Galactic Civil War, one which the Rebel Alliance attempted to exploit for their own interests.
Still, the Fiurmians held no allegiances to either side of the war, and only gathered information for their own profit and self-gain. The species was also known to occasionally engage in the slave trade, and held no qualms in betraying those who had placed their trust in them. They had dealings with criminal organizations such as the “Guavian Death Gang” and the “Spice Runners of Kijimi” in the past, though again, these were tentative partnerships at best. Fiumarians were commonly seen donning a signature type of form-fitting, all-black outfits which allowed them to take full advantage of their physical capabilities.
Continuity: The Fiumarians exist only in Star Wars Canon, having been referenced only twice as of the initial publishing of this article.
Unexplored: There’s quite a bit here left to explore, given our limited exposure to the Fiumarians so far. So let’s go ahead and start with what’s usually considered the biggest question for species enthusiasts, “where did this species come from?” What is the name of the Fiumarian homeworld, where is it located, and is there a specific reason as to why it hasn’t been mentioned or seen as of yet? When did the species first develop sentience, what kind of creature might they have evolved from, and why did they adapt their unique physical and mental traits? What was the Fiumarian homeworld like, what sorts of environments did it boast, were there any distinct traits that could set it apart from the billions of other worlds in the universe, and were there any noteworthy animals, plants, minerals, or other points of interest/potential exports found there?
When did the Fiumarians first take to the stars, when were they first discovered, and by whom? How much reach did they have, and how widespread were they throughout various eras? Did they have any sort of well known intergalactic reputations? Did they have any major alliances in the past, such as with the Galactic Republic, which they had since abandoned? Was there a certain subsect of the species who had abandoned their usual underhanded, unaffiliated, apathetic ways, or was it so ingrained in the species that they could not overcome this nature? Was there one unified Fiumarian network that had spanned the stars for some time? And were they potentially more involved with the inner workings of the galaxy than anyone truly realized? Exploring some of these questions, as well as the usual list of general worldbuilding traits, will help to truly set this species apart from so many others, something they’ll definitely need to gain any sort of further notoriety among the fandom.
Additional Notes: This one actually slipped under my radar for a long time, being one of the last Canon comic species I added to my comprehensive list before I considered myself, for the most part, fully up-to-date with that list. There’s not too much super special when it comes to their appearance, however, I suppose this means they could easily make the jump into live action, but would they? The idea of a sort of truly neutral (and exclusively self-serving) species is somewhat underutilized within the universe, but they do really need just one more little boost to fully establish them as something unique. Hopefully they’re not one of the species who will be lost to time, and do make an appearance somewhere down the line. There’s definitely untapped potential, and elements of their design like their creepy hands and face, as well as their cold and divorced personas, could be further played upon or exaggerated to great effect!
