Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Pink, Purple, Brown, Orange, Blue, or Green

Biology: The Onodone were a little known species that were sometimes found in the Star Wars galaxy. While much of their biology remains unknown both in and out of universe, there are a few things we can glean. The Onodones had thick, leathery skin that has been observed being a wide variety of colors including, but not limited to, pink, green blue, purple, or orange. They were approximately the same height as the average Human, and while their bodies were almost always obscured by clothing, we do know that they had wrinkled, four-fingered hands with naturally sharp nails.

As for their heads, we know they were a hairless species, and although they always wore head coverings, it appears that the back of their head was smooth and slightly elongated. Their faces were slightly droopy, with large eyes and solid black pupils and wrinkled eyelids.Their nostrils were located on either side of the top of the snout, with no visible protruding nose or ears seen on the Onodone’s head. Their faces were already covered in a number of creases and wrinkles, seemingly despite their age.

Of course, their most notable feature was their enormous snouts. These snouts were generally approximately 1.2 to 1.5 meters in length, and started out rather thick before growing incredibly thin quite quickly. These snouts were not prehensile, and would flop around when an Onodone was moving, which is why they often kept them slung over their shoulder, wrapped around their neck, or even just tucked away. Occasionally, Onodone were observed with a much shorter snout, less than .4 meters in length, although it’s unclear whether this is natural, potentially indicating unique subspecies or genetic variation, or if the snouts were simply surgically removed for whatever reason. From what we know, the Onodone could speak, although what languages were natural to them, what they were able to pronounce, and to what extent, remains unknown.

Lore: The Onodone’s past and origins are intentionally left a mystery. It is something that they simply refuse to speak about, but for what reason, we do not know. It is highly believed that they originated from the Unknown Regions, or somewhere else beyond the known galaxy. There are still very few Onodones out there, and they are almost never caught up in major galactic events, although somehow they are still slowly making their way into charted space from wherever they hail from. They also hold some unique cultural/religious beliefs, which include a vow of silence about their home as well as the constant covering of one’s head and body with ornate coverings and clothing. We have seen some them serve as quite proficient mercenaries, although it is unclear whether or not this is indicative of something regarding the species’ background or natural skills.

A group of Onodones were observed participating within an Imperial Senate meeting not long after the collapse of the Republic, although the context of this remains unknown. These individuals were of the shortened snout variety, possibly indicating a divide in the species between types, although again, we just don’t have enough information to say for sure. Unless their homeworld was brought into the folds of the Republic/Empire under the record, then presumably these Onodone either represented a colony of their own, or were possibly employed to attend senate hearings on behalf of a different race/world entirely.

Legends/Canon: The Onodone are a species exclusive to Star Wars Canon, introduced early on with The Force Awakens.

Unexplored: This is another one of those species whose intrigue comes not from their established lore but from the fact that we know nothing about it. So as wary as I am from actually promoting the idea of exploring them further, there are a few things that can be further fleshed out while maintaining their mysterious nature. This includes seeing how they speak, learning why there were two distinct snout types, determining whether their trunks possibly got in the way or inhibited their actions during combat, seeing how and why they could appear within the Senate, and exploring how and where they may have taken up residence throughout the known galaxy. Honestly, just exploring their perspectives of galactic events would be very interesting as anyone from the Unknown Regions could almost be seen as outside observers (although not always in an “innocent” sort of way).

Additional Notes: The Onodones are honestly pretty interesting, and their mysterious nature makes them all the more intriguing. I definitely want to see more of them, at least to an extent, although I don’t want to undermine just how rare they are, and seeing one appear in any media is actually a pretty momentous occasion in my opinion!
