Xot

Name: Xot

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Dwarf/Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Green or Blue

Biology: The Xot were a strange, small, little-known species seen seldom in the Star Wars universe. They stood approximately 1 meter tall when fully grown, their limbs rather spindly compared to their disproportionately large head. Their skin was usually green or a shade of aquamarine, with colorful, mottled spots and other patterns found on the tops of their heads (we’ve seen yellow and red markings, although other colors may be possible). They had long feet, stubby fingers, and relatively wrinkled skin, even on non-elderly Xot individuals.

Their long necks gave way to a large, flat head with exaggerated features (often described as macrobinocular-shaped). Their wide nose extended from an almost crest-like ridge on the top of their head. Their massive eyes were situated on the far sides of the front of their faces, their colorful irises containing a three-dotted pupil situated vertically and connected via small lines. They had rather small mouths with severe underbites that showcased their sometimes pointed, sometimes squared, always scraggly teeth.

They also possessed no visible aural cavities or ears, but did have four to six small antennae-like “feelers,” one set on top of their nose and the other one to two sets extending out from under their eyes. They are believed to be able to pronounce Galactic Basic, albeit with an accent, although this may just be due to all of the droids around them being able to translate whatever other language they may speak. We do not know their average lifespan, reproductive and life cycles, nor what Xot women or children look like.

Lore: Unfortunately, our knowledge regarding the Xot species overall is about as limited as they come. You can currently count the number of Xot that have appeared across all Star Wars media on one hand. One was a random prisoner in the prison “Starlag XIX,” and two others owned a junkyard on a random unnamed planet (potentially their homeworld). We haven’t seen any rich or influential Xot, but because we’ve seen so few, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Xot were a poor species or were forced to spread out across the galaxy or anything like that. The ones we’ve seen are surprisingly competent combatants for their size, although they were also pretty scummy and their design clearly compliments that characterization. (They don’t appear to utilize last names either, only going by single names like “Davil” and “Bidvel.”)

Legends/Canon: The Xot have only appeared in recent Canon Star Wars comics.

Unexplored: So of course, with a species with as little lore as the Xot, there is much to explore. What is the name of their homeworld, what kind of biome(s) and ecology can be found on it, and where within the galaxy is it located? What is the economical status of the Xot and their world, do they have any exports, or much like the planet with the junkyard we see in the comic where the Xot first appeared, were they simply a race of scrappers and criminals? Things like their government, politics, society, history, culture, and relation to the rest of the galaxy have also yet to be established, and are areas that often make or break the characterization of otherwise rather obscure species. Finally, exploring them throughout other eras can add a layer of depth and extended lore to their history. They’ve currently only appeared during the Galactic Civil War, and will likely pop-up during the High Republic, but there are still other wars and times we can check in on them to see what they’re up to.

Additional Notes: I think the Xot have a fairly memorable design, clearly meant to portray gruff, crooked individuals like scrappers and prisoners. I think you could take this and turn them into like a scraggly old mentor or a misunderstood little hero, so there is some potential for this design and I’ve been excited to write this article for a while. Hopefully we’ll see them again in the High Republic soon, and I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing a live action rendition in one of the many upcoming television series!
