Segredo

Last Updated: 04/07/2026

Name: Segredo

Classification: Humanoid/Beastoid (Felinoid/Chiropteroid)/Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Purple, Blue, Cream, and/or White

Biology: The Segredo were a diminutive feline-esque species. They had three-toed paws, stifle knee joints, and four fingered hands, covered almost entirely in a thin layer of purple or blue hair. They stood slightly shorter than most humanoid beings, although that may just be from the angle their double knees were constantly bent. They had massive bat-like ears protruding seamlessly from their heads, as well as distinctively furry chins. Their mouths and noses were rather small, while their eyes were disproportionately large, angled upward from their nose at a approximately 45 degrees. Said eyes were blue, aside from their small black pupils. Unlike most felinoid species, they also sported a pair of thin, black antennae from the tops of their heads.

The Segredo’s main distinguishable trait was the fact that they possessed some sort of innate special ability, seemingly “psionic” or maybe “magick” in nature. They, nor the Jedi, ever referred to these powers as specifically being from the Force, so it is unclear if they were still somehow linked to high natural Midi-chlorian counts, or if this unique ability was trigger through other means. Said trait allows the Segredo to “cloak” themselves at will, blocking other lifeforms around them from perceiving their existence, essentially making themselves invisible, but only from direct perception, not within recordings or other types of technology. This power is so extreme, in fact, that they can even project it onto other beings around them as well, making whole crowds of people seemingly vanish. The duration and range of this ability has never been given a limit, so it is unclear just how strong or vast these powers may be, but they did seem to improve with age.

Lore: Nearly nothing is known about the Segredo history or society. Apparently they existed long before many sentient species of the modern galaxy, and usually used their cloaking abilities to keep their people a secret, potentially leading to their homeworld remaining unknown. Unfortunately, they couldn’t fully protect themselves in the end as they were an incredibly benevolent people and usually looked down upon acts of selfishness. Their willingness to help other species who were afraid or dying ultimately played a role in their downfall, and by the beginning of the Clone Wars, supposedly only a single Segredo remained. She too had seemingly died by the time the Galactic Empire rose to power, quite possibly adding their people to the ever-growing list of extinct sentient species across the galaxy. However, given the fact that they can literally exist in an “invisible” state, it’s also very possible that this is just what they wanted to lead the galaxy to believe for the sake of their own survival.

Continuity: Segredo only exist within the current Star Wars Canon, and have made only two major appearances, one set during the Clone Wars and another set prior during the High Republic.

Unexplored: Quite literally everything in regards to the greater lore of this ancient and relatively powerful species remains unknown. They were definitely a secretive and close knit people throughout most of their history, and it seems they were never many in numbers, possibly being more of a nomadic group than an entire planetary population, at least for quite some time. It is also unclear whether their strange and unique abilities are linked to Midi-chlorians and the Force or not, but Jedi Grand Master Yoda seems to hint that it is not Force-related in any way and is somehow just a natural occurrence, which I mean, could work in a galaxy far, far away, though because we also know the Force flows through all things, its still a little hard to comprehend how it could work outside of maybe magick, which itself was still at least somewhat related to the Force as well.

As for their general society, culture, civilization, politics, or even collective economy or influence, we still know next to nothing as well. What world did they hail from and what was it like that caused them to evolve their abilities? When were they first discovered and by whom? Was an attempt ever made to bring them into the folds of the Republic? Why were they so concerned with the wellbeing of others, and did it have anything to do with how they might have always been treated by the outside galaxy? Who might have oppressed them, or sought them out for their unique “value?” Did they really go extinct, or was it a ruse to “reset” their hidden nature for lack of a better term? And what was the greater species up to a as a whole during various major galactic events or eras, such as the “High Republic” when we observe one, Drewen Qweebjillan, team up with former Jedi Ty Yorrick? His village and family were wiped out by marauders on an unidentified world, so is it possible this event was linked to the species’ greater population decline? Exploring the answers to these questions, as well as the other various worldbuilding concepts like the ones we often discuss in these articles, will help truly bring this fascinating species to the forefront of the fandom’s awareness!

Additional Notes: I really enjoy how this felinoid species sets itself apart, both design-wise, as well as lore-wise, from other sentients with similar inspirations. There is still an air of mystery surrounding their very unique abilities, and the fact that this isn’t some obscure EU species makes them all the more fascinating. That being said, the relatively recent addition of another Segredo kid named Drewen (and his brother technically) within the “The High Republic” multimedia initiative was really exciting! Their slightly more bat-like appearance on the cover of “The Monster of Temple Peak #1” is a but confusing, and definitely mislead me into thinking we were going to see a brand new species at first, but the fact that they found a new way to utilize their invisibility powers in the run is incredibly fun!
