Myke

Last Updated: 2/3/2024

Name: Myke

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Tan, Grayish-Green, or Grayish-Blue

Biology: Mykes are a near-Numan species with a fairly unique origin. They are actually implied to be a distant descendant of the Sith species. Because they do not possess the Sith’s distinct red pigmentation, it is believed that Myke are a product of Sith-Human breeding, similar to hybrids such as Ludo Kressh or Marka Ragnos. Like the Sith, Mykes possessed two pointed growths extending from their chin. They also always have jet black hair (although it would grow white with age), and their skin was usually a pale tan or gray in coloration. Their height, light span, and other physical features are almost identical to that of Humans, although their eyes are almost always squinted or protected, possibly due to a sensitivity to bright lights attributed to their pale nature.

Lore: Not much is known about the Mykes, as they were again essentially believed to be a hybrid species, and thus, possessed no true homeworld or succinct society. In fact, they really didn’t make their presence known to the galaxy until the waning days of the Galactic Civil War and the rise of the New Republic. Many Mykes seemed to have a penchant for becoming criminals, often serving as either pirates or crime lords. They spoke little of their history or people, and were not generally seen associating with one another, although this is much more likely due to their spread out nature than any underlying grudges. Interestingly, the Mykes were considered Human-like enough to gain access into the Empire’s ranks, and faces much less discrimination than other alien species at the hands of the generally xenophobic regime.

Legends/Canon: Mykes only exist within Star Wars Legends, and because of their connection to certain EU events and ideas such as the Sith race and Thrawn’s Empire (both of which have been made Canon to some degree since I first wrote this article), we will most likely never see them, at least in their current state, within the present continuity. Even then, only three named Mykes were actually found in the EU, so information on them has always been sparse.

Unexplored: There’s definitely a lot of potential for exploration within the Mykes. Of course, most of the questions will be within the context of Legends specifically , but there are always ways to fit them into Canon. The first thing to explore is what their exact relation to the ancient Sith species might have been. Are they truly descendants, was it justa popular misconception, or did they possibly just make up the idea to essentially gain “species clout.” If they are hybrids, is it definitely between Sith and Humans, or maybe another species entirely?

We also need to dive into the basics of their lore such as if they might have world they call their “home planet,” or if they are simply hybrid descendants, are they so spread across the galaxy that there was never any localized group? Why do most seem to have an aversion to bright lights, is it an evolutionary trait or something they developed from living somewhere? Do they ever come in contact with each other, or were their so few that this would never even really be an eventuality? Do they possess any forms of succinct culture, traditions, history, religions, habits, etc., or are they all just products of the environments and cultures they were individually raised in? There’s a lot to work with here, so whosoever chooses to tackle this should just have fun with it!

Additional Notes: The Mykes aren’t the most unique looking creatures in the Star Wars galaxy, that’s for sure. They’re basically a half step away from just being Humans it would seem. But in the context of the EU specifically, and with the hints toward their relationship to the Sith, they open up a lot of possibilities about genetics and heritages and even the nature of the Force and the Dark Side itself. No Myke has ever been shown to possess any sort of Force power, but it’s not stated that they can’t? Would they be more attuned to the Dark side of the Force? Or does their past and family not determine their current lifestyles, actions, and links to the Living Force? It’s definitely worth writing about and could open up some great opportunities for storytelling that parallel themes like those found in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker or similar media.
