Name: Caphex
Classification: Humanoid (Near-Human)/Beastoid (Felinoid/Simianoid)
Homeworld: Caphexdis
Coloration: White, Cream, and/or Brown
Biology: Caphex appeared fairly similar to Humans, with some slightly more feline or even simian traits, especially when looking at the concept art that inspired their finalized design. They had pale white skin, glassy, black eyes, large foreheads, straight nose ridges, very prominent cheekbones, and a downturned mouth. Their whole body was also covered with a thin layer of fuzzy white fur, although it was thin enough that their skin is still visible. Their hair came down and met on their cheekbones, creating very long and pointy “sideburns,” present on both males and females. The hair of young Caphex could be dark brown or cream, turning solid white with age, and they had the ability to grow a mustache or beard-like facial hair growth as well.
Lore: Almost nothing is known about the Caphex people aside from the fact that they allied themselves with the Resistance at some point during their war with the First Order after a period of hesitancy. Similarly to the Rebellion’s Bothans, the Caphex acted as the primary spy force for the Resistance, proving to be very silent, crafty, and intelligent. Apparently they were also a somewhat common sight in the galaxy during the High Republic era, and at least one Force Sensitive Caphex, the former Jedi Dante, had been brought into the Inquisitorious program during the early days of the Galactic Empire, though his fate was unfavorable. It also seems they hailed from the planet Caphexdis, though the link has technically never been made despite the obviousness of the names, with said world yet-to-be-explored OOU, only established to be found within a System of the same name housed within the Homon Sector, which itself in the Mid Rim’s “New Territories” region seemingly by the end of the High Republic.
Continuity: Caphex were released alongside the Canon film Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, relegating them to the current Star Wars continuity.
Unexplored: The Caphex hold a very unique spot in the era of the Resistance, being closely associated with General Leia Organa herself. There is so much that can be explored with how they allied themselves with the Resistance, why they were hesitant at the beginning, and even their reactions to the galaxy’s victory at Exegol and the aftermath. There are many espionage-based stories that could be told about the Resistance’s Caphex. And it would be interesting to explore what they were doing both during the various other eras of the galaxy. We still need to know about their past and history, how they came to be who they are, and similar bits of lore
What was their homeworld like and what caused them to evolve in the manner that they did, did they have a precursor species or were they maybe a distant offshoot of Humanity? When were they first discovered, and by whom? Did they ever have any galactic allegiances, alliances, or even rivalries? Were they well known for anything on a galactic scale, or did they keep their heads low, resulting in their expert ability to blend in when needed by the Resistance? There are tons of other worldbuilding aspects still to be expanded on, see the usual list on include on a majority of the articles on the site covering less-than-prominent species, and you’ll see aspects ripe for exploration in the future of the franchise!
Additional Notes: I find the Caphex and incredibly underrated species, with a simple but eye-catching alien design. In fact, discovering them for the first time was one of the reasons I dedicated myself to writing species articles in the first place, which eventually led to the creation of this site! Now if only they would get some more fleshed out lore to solidify them among some of the Sequel era’s finest! (Worth noting that since publishing, they have made more appearances, including an animated debut within the “Tales of the Empire” limited series, so that’s fun!)
