Name: Caphex
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human/Beastite (Felinoid/Simian)
Homeworld: Caphexdis
Coloration: White, Cream, and/or Brown
Biology: Caphex appeared fairly similar to Humans, with some slightly more feline or even simian traits, especially when looking at the concept art that inspired their finalized design. They had pale white skin, glassy, black eyes, large foreheads, straight noses, very prominent cheekbones, and a downturned mouth. Their whole body was also covered with a thin layer of fuzzy white fur, although it was thin enough that their skin is still visible. Their hair came down and met on their cheekbones, creating very long and pointy “sideburns,” present on both males and females. The hair of young Caphex could be dark brown or cream, turning solid white with age, and they had the ability to grow a mustache or beard-like facial hair growth as well.
Lore: Almost nothing is known about the Caphex people aside from the fact that they allied themselves with the Resistance at some point during their war with the First Order. Similarly to the Rebellion’s Bothans, the Caphex acted as the primary spy force for the Resistance, proving to be very silent, crafty, and intelligent. Apparently they were also a somewhat common sight in the galaxy during the High Republic era, and at least one Force Sensitive Caphex had been brought into the Inquisitorious program during the early days of the Empire, though their fate seemed bleak.
Continuity: Caphex were released alongside the Canon film Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, relegating them to the current Star Wars continuity.
Unexplored: The Caphex hold a very unique spot in the era of the Resistance, being closely associated with General Leia Organa herself. There is so much that can be explored with how they allied themselves with the Resistance, why they were hesitant at the beginning, and or their reactions to the victory on Exegol. There are many spy short stories that could be told about the Resistance Caphex. And it would be interesting to explore what they were doing both during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, as well as expanding upon what we’ve seen of them in the High Republic. Still, before all of that, you simply need to establish a baseline history, culture, world, and society. After that, you’re free to take them wherever your imagination can reach.
Additional Notes: I find the Caphex and incredibly underrated species, with a simple but eye-catching alien design. In fact, discovering them for the first time was one of the reasons I dedicated myself to writing species articles in the first place, which eventually led to the creation of this site! Now if only they would get some more fleshed out lore to solidify them among some of the Sequel era’s finest! (Worth noting that since publishing, they have made more appearances, including an animated debut within the “Tales of the Empire” limited series, so that’s fun!)
