Current or Previously Unidentified Species 851-900

SPECIES: Syrinxian

DAY 851 UPDATE: The first issue of the comic officially identified this species as the Syrinxians of Syrinx Prime. They are locked in a war with an incredibly similar looking species, the Vekurans of Vekura. So similar in fact, that I’d reckon they’re either actually the same species just split into multiple groups, or VERY closely related, having branched out within the relatively near past before the comic takes place. Below closeups of a Syrinxian on the left, and a Vekuran on the right (top an bottom respectively for mobile).

DAY 856 UPDATE: It was pointed out to me how similar the lower face is drawn to how Klatooinians are commonly depicted in illustrated media. Cannot confirm, but there’ s decent case to be made that that is what was intended. Still, the High Republic is diverse enough in its new and existing design usage that I cannot say with confidence that this is true, just worth noting.

SPECIES: (still unidentified)

DAY 859 UPDATE: Really neat revelation for this one actually! They’re one of the only characters to speak the language “Uthuthma” as revealed in the captions, which is the tongue Jakku’s native sentient population, also known as the Uthuthma. They’ve yet to be depicted onscreen, but I’m nearly positive that’s what this individual is! Not confident enough to update the “Species” field above, but still pretty sure that it’ll be confirmed as much someday!

SPECIES: (still unidentified)

DAY 863 UPDATE: The more I look at it, the more I’m convinced this is a member of the species that appear to potentially be locals here on Tirahnn, the same as the blue individual in the foreground and the two tall ones over his shoulder (as well as what I covered on Day 392). Didn’t even put two-and-two together about them having such large stature until after I made this post, but they seem to potentially be one-in-the-same, this one’s notable traits are just covered by the hood and mask. Still not confirmed, just something to think about.

SPECIES: Prae’tus

DAY 872 UPDATE: Okay, so this is a fascinating one. Text found within Beyond Victory refers to Volo as both a Prae’tus AND a “Nikto Ijosap’sai” (presumably Ijosap’sai’Nikto is the intended formatting) in two different places. We were initially unsure how to rectify this, whether they were a Nikto subspecies so far removed that they preferred to refer to themselves by a non-Nikto species name, or maybe “Prae’tus” was some sort of title while they were actually just Niktos. However, during Discord Dev Livestream for the game, an associate of mine asked for clarification and it seems they explained it as “Prae’tus is the actual species, though they were misidentified by researchers in-universe as being a Nikto subspecies, and were thus given the alternate title erroneously.” Not sure what to think of this, feels more like an on-the-spot retcon than something they initially planned, and we’ll see how this is addressed in future guides. But unfortunately I don’t have the direct quote as I lost signal for those few minutes of the stream AND despite promising to upload the recording the following week, it still has not been made public, and unfortunately never will at this rate…

DAY 876 UPDATE: Technically the species could just be “Muppet,” right? I mean, that’s what Grover’s actual Wikipedia page states: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover.

SPECIES: Abednedo

DAY 879 UPDATE: Unlike the previous day where I mentioned “near-Abednedos,” this one ACTUALLY just turned out to be an Abednedo. Same hair placement as other members of the species seen in YJA, and the body is specifically modeled after that of Crusher Roodown, down to the leather straps.

DAY 897 UPDATE: Here’s the interview link for easier access: https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/star-wars-force-awakens-sound-design-matthew-wood-interview/. Interestingly, nearly identical individuals appear among the Skakoans of Jul Tambor’s camp in “Darth Vader (2020)” issues 29-30ish, as seen below. We still don’t know exactly what a proto-Skakoan is, but could it potentially refer more to the technology of the suit and NOT the biological makeup of the actual individual? Guess we’ll still have to wait and see.
