Prae’tus

Last Updated: 05/02/2026

Name: Prae’tus

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Reptilian/Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Pink, Purple, Blue, and Orange

Biology: The Prae’tus were a fairly humanoid species possessing two legs and four arms. They stood a head taller than the average Human or near-Human, with a slender yet muscular frame. Their upper arms connected to their bodies at their shoulders, while their lower arms extended out from the sides of the center of their torsos. The upper arms were approximately the size of a Human’s, with five fingered hands, dark fingernails, and orange knuckles. The lower set of arms were slightly smaller, and featured only three fingers, lending to the idea that the upper were their primary arms while their lower were secondary with less overall utility. Prae’tus had partially scale-covered skin, with scales present on the tops of their arms and the majority of their heads, while much of the rest of their skin was instead smooth.

Prae’tus had rounded craniums, with a fleshy pink face featuring a slightly extended snout, with two small nasal cavities on top but not much in the way of a traditional “nose” structure. They also had wide mouths that wrapped around the bottom on this “snout,” lacking prominent lips. Prae’tus eyes were large and glassy solid black, and though completely hairless, they did have pink and orange protruding scales that imitated the shape of eyebrows. Where the pink faded to purple on their heads, a series of spines formed a ring around the face, jutting backwards with orange tips and connected with a thin fin-like film on the sides. They had four of the spines on each side of their head, with an additional two extending from their chins. The largest scales on a Prae’tus could be found on their forehead, running up over the center of their brow and onto the coarse back of their head. What appeared to be earless aural cavities could also be seen on the sides of their heads.

Prae’tus were primarily purple, both flesh and scales, though their fingers and underarms grew a lighter shade with hints of pink. There were also dark pink rings around their eyes, and it appeared the front of their necks and chests may have been a light shade as well. The only visible orange on their bodies when fully clothed came from their knuckles, brow scales, facial spines, and a tinge of orange shading on at least the tops of their lower set of arms. Prae’tus were fairly agile with great dexterity, allowing them to be both skilled pilots and mechanics. They also had the capacity to pronounce Galactic Basic Standard without issue, though seemingly with the slightest strange affect to their voices. It was said the Prae’tus were almost identical to the Ijosap’sai’Nikto, though seemingly not related in any way. They also bore a strong resemblance to the simian Ardennian species from Ardennia, though again, no confirmed relation.

Lore: The Prae’tus are a species that, by their very nature, have become overshadowed within the Star Wars galaxy. In-universe xenobiologists apparently initially mistook the Prae’tus as being members of a Nikto subspecies known as the Ijosap’sai’Nikto from the planet Kintan. How this classification came to be is unknown, but it turns out the Prae’tus are a totally distinct species from the much more popular and common Nikto, seemingly coming from an entirely different homeworld. Still, they consistently get mistaken for the Nikto subspecies, a fact that at least some of them have presumably come to terms with. One member of this species, a podracer pilot named Volo Bolus, had dealings with both the infamous crime boss Grakkus the Hutt as well as the legendary Dug podracer, Sebulba, becoming a bit of a famous figure in their own right.

Continuity: The Prae’tus are a species exclusive to the current Star Wars Canon, initially designed by Casey Straka for the 2025 AR/VR experience “Star Wars: Beyond Victory.”

Unexplored: There are some fascinating questions surrounding this species, a couple of which were already answered, but the majority we’re still waiting for the day when they’re further fleshed out. These remaining questions include: Where did the Prae’tus actually come from, what was the name of their planet, what sort of environment(s) did it have, what sort of creature did they evolve from, and what caused them to evolve into what they look like in the modern age? In regards to their appearance, firstly, why did they so closely resemble the appearances of Ardennians, down to the coloration, four arms, facial features, etc.? Is it possible they descended from the same ancestor, with Prae’tus also hailing from Ardennia or a nearby world? And with the Nikto, is there actually any relation here, maybe the Prae’tus are a distant Ijosap’sai offshoot who crash landed on another planet long ago or something? Or is it true that they are entirely unrelated and just happen to resemble each other due to a concept like convergent evolution?

If the latter is true, how, then, did xenobiologists and researchers manage to confuse the two? What repercussions did that have for each species? Do the Prae’tus feel less valued as a people knowing they’re commonly misidentified as a much more “popular” species, which could be seen as a sort of microaggression? Or is it something they couldn’t be bothered to care about enough to even pay mind to? Was it common to see Prae’tus serving in roles and working jobs that suited their unique physiology such as piloting, maintenance, or potentially even combat? Were they ever involved in any major galactic events or, as a whole, have any prominent alliances or partnerships with other groups, species, planets, corporations, or even galactic governments? Diving into some of their other unique worldbuilding concepts such as their history, architecture, achievements, technologies, exports, economy, society, civilizations, politics, governments, religions, philosophies, traditions, habits, languages, diets, etc. would also be very beneficial, especially in setting them apart from other species. And slightly unrelated, but it would also be nice to get a depiction of the Ijosap’sai’Nikto so that would could compare and contrast.

Additional Notes: So this is definitely a fascinating one with a bit of a unique story surrounding them. We knew about them for a while leading up to the release of “Beyond Victory,” though given it was first exclusively playable at Star Wars Celebration 2025, we had to wait an additional six months after its technical release before we could dig into the nitty gritty of the game. What was found within the game text once fully available was references to Volo Bolus being called both a Prae’tus AND a Nikto Ijosap’sai, forcing us to assume they were both names for the same thing. For a few weeks there was an attempt to justify this, with the assumption being that the Nikto subspecies was so far removed from the rest of their species, given the additional limbs and possibly coming from another planet, that they developed their own distinct culture and those chose a unique name for themselves. However, Meta hosted a Developer AMA livestream towards the end of the month the game globally released which allowed us to ask a number of questions, one of which they chose for the stream being in regards to Volo’s species.

The develops revealed that, supposedly, there was an in-universe reason for the discrepancy, that being that Volo, who was confirmed to be a Prae’tus, was often mistaken for a Nikto due to their species being misidentified by researchers in-universe. As fascinating an answer as that one, I’m still not entirely sold on the idea that that was the plan from the start, and sorta almost feels more like something possibly made up on the spot, or at least after it was initially pointed out. Until we get more development history, I think I’m still going to assume this was just an oversight, with two writers miscommunicating and assigning two different species to Volo in-game. Still, it’s a neat cover story if not planned lore from the start that we honestly don’t see a lot of in-universe outside of near-Humans being mistaken for Humans. Now if only we could see the Niktos they supposedly so closely resemble (I kind of hope the original Straka concept art, bottom left, gets repurposed for their appearance, there are enough differences from the finalized design). Anyway, its always fun to get a non-Human protagonist in a Star Wars game, and I’m glad they not only went with a neat design, but also gave it a name (or two) and a bit of lore, much like most of the new species created for and introduced within “Star Wars: Beyond Victory!”
