Name: Tallimarian
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Tallimar Prime
Coloration: Tan
Biology: The Tallimarians appeared to be a Human-like species, sharing the same general humanoid height, weight, build, and frame, with two arms, two, legs, and one head, even sharing the same general skin tones. Where the species different from baselines Humans, at least visually, was only in the size of their cranium, with with Tallimarians skulls extending out behind their heads and tapering off at a rounded point, being at least .25 meters long from forehead to tip, if not longer. It seemed the species lacked any hair on the tops of their heads (though did possess at least eyelashes), and may have had mottled spots on their cranial skin as well. Tallimarians had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic Standard, and it’s a potentiality that they could cross-breed with standard Humans.
Lore: Little remains known about the Tallimarians are present, though it seems they hailed from an astronomical object, potentially a planet, known as Tallimar Prime. The species seemed to be relatively well known and possibly on the wealthier side of the galactic landscape, with the “Ressad Dynasty” seeming to be known across many corners of the galaxy. One member of this dynasty, the Tallimarian Centada Ressad, was a wealthy aristocrat, gambler, and possible war profiteer who had dealings with many of the high rollers who frequented Canto Bight, making quite the name for herself by the year 34 ABY, even among her already powerful family.
Continuity: The Tallimarians are a species exclusive to Star Wars Canon, being introduced in the 2017 film “Episode VIII: The Last Jedi,” but not being formally identified until eight years later when their name was revealed in the audiobook “The Jaws of Jakku.” Interestingly, a few months prior to that, the Keeper of the Holocron, Leland Chee, had revealed to me that the species had not yet been named within the Holocron Continuity Database (HCD), so it seems, unlike a fair few film species, their name wasn’t planned in advance but was more than likely conceptualized specifically for the book.
Unexplored: Unfortunately, almost ten years later, I still have to say “almost everything” for this section when writing about a species that originated from TLJ. I feel like, of the three sequel films, this ones’ species have overall received the least fleshing out as of the beginning of 2026 when I am initially publishing this article. Someone will have to fact check me on that of course, as I’m basing that just off of my personal experience and vibes so far, but hopefully I’ll have a reason to come back and amend this someday. But as usual, there are a couple specific questions we can ask which I will list out below, but otherwise, please refer back to our usual list of generalized worldbuilding traits which ever species should have fleshed out eventually.
As for the few more specific questions we can ask, these include: What was the purpose for the Tallimarians’ enlarged craniums, did they possess increased intelligence, did it house powerful extrasensory organs, or was there another reason they had developed the way they did. Other than that, did they have any other anatomical or biological traits that set them apart from Humans, maybe internally, and was it possible for them to produce Human-Tallimarian hybrids? Was the species truly rich and powerful, was Tallimar Prime their original home, or just the capital of their holdings, and what was so special about the Ressad Dynasty to acquire them galactic fame (or infamy)? Answers to these questions, as well as additional depictions someday, will go a long way in setting this otherwise rather generic alien species apart from others.
Additional Notes: Believe me when I say I spent years dissuading the notion that Centada Ressad was just a female Cerean. I never believed it for one moment, even among the strange adaptations we received during the Disney era (I’m looking at you Pau’ans), and almost a decade later receiving their name is a bit of a random audiobook was very vindicating. That said, since no true transcript of said audiobook exists at this time, we don’t actually really know the exact spelling for “Tallimarian,” however, I and some of the editors over at Wookieepedia decided this was what we’d go with for now. Just don’t be surprised if the title randomly changes one day to omit an “L” or add an “M,” and I guess we’ll also have to see if Tallimar Prime (spelling also pending) does truly end up to be their point of origin (which I believe it is), or just one of their many colonized worlds. (The fantastic concept art below comes from one of my favorite concept sculptors and artists, Ivan Manzella, if you couldn’t tell from his print watermark for whatever reason).
