Gueal

Name: Gueal

Humanoid: No

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Greenish, Yellow, and White

Biology: The Gueal were a gangly species with an asymmetrical appearance, with loose, wrinkled skin that was a gradient from green on the arms to yellow around the face to white on the neck/torso, with various dark mottled spots spread unevenly about. The species had four legs, and two long arms with high-set bony shoulders, sharp elbows, and spindly four-fingered hands, two in the center and two on the sides that appeared to operate more like thumbs, all ending in sharp finger nails.

Gueal had elongated faces, with low-hanging blubbery chins and no visible necks, with wide mouths that turned down on the sides, and flesh-colored upper fangs that sat on top of their lower lips when their mouths were closed. They had large exposed nostrils, with two bumps on their nasal ridges. The species had large brows, overshadowing their wide eyes that were red in coloration, with black vertical slit pupils. The tops of their craniums were flat, and their ears were pointed, the tips sticking out and up above the tops of their heads. What appears to be thin whiskers or maybe fleshy spines protruded from their cheeks and sides of their heads under their ears.

Lore: We learned next to nothing about the Gueal, aside from the fact that one member of the species wrote an apparently famous “lament” chronicling their love life, though the author’s name remains unknown.

Continuity: The Gueal originated from “Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas,” which, according to Keeper of the Holocron Leland Chee, was non-canon, even within the Expanded Universe continuity/continuities. They have never been mentioned elsewhere, which means they currently exist within no major Star Wars canon but are still technically related to the Star Wars universe, as they could, according to Chee, appear within official Star Wars media someday (at least pre-Disney, it’s unclear if that sentiment still stands now).

Unexplored: This is one of a few weird cases where the first thing we kinda have to ask is not, “what is their place in the Star Wars universe?” but instead “do they have a place in the Star Wars universe?” I don’t mean that in like a “would this design even fit” kinda way, but just like, seeing as they’re non-canon and only tangentially related to the franchise, could or would they ever become Canon (to any main continuity in fact) in the first place? I was trying to think of an example of an alien from a separate franchise, but since E.T. (Asogians), Xenomorphs, Yautja, and even the alien from “Mac and Me” all exist in-universe, I guess that analogy falls apart a bit.

However, assuming they can and maybe even will actually exist within the Star Wars universe in some capacity someday, we would then have to default to our standard list of general worldbuilding traits. Stuff like where the species came from, when they developed sentience and who first discovered them, major allies they made or events they were a part of, what they might have been known for among the galaxy, if they were known at all, whether that be traditions, biological traits, politics, military might, exports or produce, or something else entirely. There’s a laundry list of key elements to hit when establishing a memorable species, and diving a bit more into their design through further descriptions or depictions would be especially nice as well!

Additional Notes: The “Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas” aliens are still all so fascinating, as I wouldn’t even really consider them linked to Star Wars at all, and probably wouldn’t include them on my site or write about them, if it didn’t seem like, at least to some capacity, Lucasfilm didn’t acknowledge them in relation to the galaxy far, far away. Maybe we’ll get some further clarification someday, and if it seems the consensus has changed, I’ll have to decide whether I want to keep these articles or not. However, for now, it does seem like there’s at least a chance they could be referenced or appear in future Star Wars media, apparently being among the pool of aliens authors and illustrators could choose from to include in their own works, so we’ll really just have to see if anything ever comes from any of these species down the line.
