Name: Tolgroat
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Gastro-Cephalopod/Alternative
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Blue and Tan
Biology: Tolgroats were a bipedal sentient species, possessing two thin arms and two legs, with a relatively humanoid frame. They had primarily light blue skin, with symmetrical dark blue stripes, as well as areas that grew light tan, primarily on their facial tentacles, which were lighter on the ends. They sported three-fingered hands, as well as rounded feet stump-like with no visible toes. Their craniums were rounded, and they seemed to have no real defined neck, with their torso appearing to almost blend into their heads.
They also had no visible mouths, instead having dark blue mottled spots around where their oral cavity should be. Additionally, no visible ears/aural openings or nose/nostrils could be observed, with their only standard facial feature being their eyes, which were orange with black pupils, shadowed by dark blue “eyebrows” which may have been flesh or hair. The Tolgroats’ most distinctive feature, however, were the set of large lube-like tentacles that extended out from the front and sides of their heads, dangling down just below their shoulder-level. These rounded tubes were hollow with open ends, potentially serving as mouths, noses, ears, or all of the above.
Lore: We know absolutely nothing about the Tolgroats outside of the fact that they had been discovered and introduced into the greater galaxy sometime prior to the rise of the New Republic.
Continuity: The Tolgroats are one of the few named species currently to come from the “Star War: Visions” subfranchise. With that in mind, they are non-Canon at the moment, however, exist in a relatively Canon-adjacent continuity. It’s definitely possible we could see them make the jump onto Canon media someday, especially given they actually possess a name!
Unexplored: Pretty much everything regarding this species remains unexplored. Aside from our usual list of worldbuilding concepts to be explored (e.g. homeworld, history, allegiances, etc.), I also would like to see a more in-depth exploration of their anatomy and biology! I want to know what the tubes are for, and if they don’t double as the missing facial features, then how do the Tolgroats speak, breathe, hear, etc.? There’s a lot here to potentially be explored, but first they have to escape the curse of originating from within an episode of Visions, and one that will probably never qualify for an extended universe/Visions Presents project in the future…
Additional Notes: It was really neat to get an ID for this one, it almost went completely overlooked as it appears somewhat blurrily for a couple of seconds in the “I Am Your Mother” Visions filmmaker focus doc under “Extras” in Visions on Disney+. Shoutout to the eagle-eyed fan who managed to catch it (I absolutely cannot take credit for this), as the claymation designs from this episode truly do deserve more recognition! There are at least two more new species from the episode that also may have names behind-the-scenes, but for now, we’ll have to be satisfied with the Tolgroats!
