Frejuke

Last Updated: 8/20/2024

Name: Frejuke

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Tan or Pink

Biology: The Frejuke were a bipedal humanoid species that stood somewhat shorter than the average Human, though not enough to fall under the traditional “dwarf/diminutive” category. The species possessed two arms and two legs, with small feet and pudgy three or four-fingered hands. They had rounded bodies with a thick layer of blubber just below their skin. This skin was a pale pink in coloration, with visible veins but no hair. Frejuke heads were large and rounded, with plump cheeks and scrunched faces. These faces featured small mouths, wide, upturned noses, and sunken eyes that bore white sclera and dark pupils. Frejuke eyes were sensitive to bright lights, including reflective glaring from a planet’s sun. Their blubber also granted them a natural heat-retaining layer, allowing them to tolerate relatively low temperatures, though they still sometimes wore warm clothing on especially icy worlds.

Lore: Little is known about the Frejuke at the moment, including their planet of origin, though it was believed to have possessed a frigid climate and surface environment plagued by either harsh or little light. They had been discovered some time prior to the rise of the First Order, with one member of the species, Wolentic Dudge, having immigrated to Kijimi by 35 ABY. If Dudge is any indication of how the species might dress, they might prefer wearing loose yet warm clothing with open fronts, exposing their chests and torsos.

Continuity: The Frejuke are exclusive to Star Wars Canon, having first appeared in 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” though they were not officially named until five years later in 2024.

Unexplored: As detailed above, next to nothing is known about this species, especially in regards to their historical and societal lore. As such, we have little basis to pose our usual, much more specific questions in this section, and so will stick to the basics until we learn more! So, the biggest element that needs to be explored at the moment is where the Frejuke hail from. What is the name of their homeworld, where is it located, and what is it like? What caused the species to evolve in the way they did? And what do their origins and evolutionary history look like, as well as their initial discovery and integration into the greater galactic landscape? Alongside addressing these baselines, it’s also worth simultaneously diving into our extensive list of core worldbuilding traits, which I won’t type out here for now but you should be able to find on nearly every other article on the site.

Additional Notes: Being finally named in an Amazon listing pre-order preview for November 2024’s comprehensive Star Wars encyclopedia just a week before the initial writing of this article, I could not be more ecstatic. Species names from “The Rise of Skywalker” have been a long time coming, and alongside the Bestoonians and the Skilla who were also identified in said preview, this one gives me a lot of hope for other obscure TROS and really Disney-era film species overall to finally receive names so that we can properly record, address, refer to, and write about them! Originally designed by Ivan Manzella, these pudgy little fellas have already had a place in my heart for a couple of years, and I can’t wait to see them appear in more now that they can realistically make a debut in strictly written media!
