Andraven

Last Updated: 09/06/2025 (OUTDATED)

Name: Andraven

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beastite (Pachydermoid)

Homeworld: Andraven

Coloration: Gray or Greenish-Blue

Biology: The Andraven were a sentient bipedal elephantine species bearing many of the common pachydermoid traits found in the Star Wars universe. Standing approximately the same height as the average Human when fully grown, the Andraven possessed two arms and two legs, with relatively thin torsos. They also had smooth skin that ranged from a pale gray to greenish-blue in coloration. Andraven heads were large and rounded, sporting wide mouths, large eyes with golden sclera, elongated, rounded, floppy ears with pink underbellies, and short trunks bearing two nostril openings at the tip. The species could also have hair on top of their head that could be colored gray. The species had the capacity to clearly pronounce Galactic Basic, and had a fairly high natural resistance to cold temperatures.

Lore: The Andraven hailed from a snowy mountain planet of the same name, living in small communities sometimes centered around the raising and training of a local walrus-like alien known as the “Wellagrin.” Wellagrin trainers would breed the creatures, incubating their eggs and raising them to be beasts of burden and mounts, though they took good care to make sure the creatures lived enriched lives, possessing an almost symbiotic relationship. The species had a distinct manner of dress, wearing earthy colors with simple designs, as well as signature cylindrical hats displaying various dangling tassels and other details. By the early days of the High Republic, the species had developed a quality relationship with the Jedi Order, even allowing younglings to visit their communities and witness their fulfilling lifestyles. The species have also been shown to generally be expert woodcarvers, lending to their tools, instruments, vehicles, architecture, etc.

Continuity: The Andraven exist exclusively within the current Star Wars Canon, being introduced within “The High Republic” multimedia event, specifically within the “Young Jedi Adventures” children’s animated series. It took a while to get a name for this species, first being “revealed” in an Instagram post by Leland Chee, before being officially confirmed within a subsequent printed guide. I wrote a bit more about this within my unidentified species content, being featured way back on Day 191.

Unexplored: Given their brief appearance within the franchise so far, we still know next to nothing about this species. As such, there’s quite a few questions we could ask that, if answered, would help us much better understand the Andraven going forward, so I will pose some of them here! For starters, when did the species first develop sentience, what sort of creature might they have evolved from, and when did they first establish a connection with the Wellagrin? When was the species first discovered, and by whom? What sort of relationship did the species have with the Galactic Republic, and were they represented on the Republic Senate, or did their ties lie exclusively with the Jedi Order themselves? Were the Andraven ever pulled into any major galactic conflicts or events, and were they well-known by the outside galaxy or did they remain relatively obscure, even after the High Republic?

What sorts of traditions did the Andraven possess, and what distinct aspects of their existence set them apart from other sentient pachydermoid species? Were there any major population centers on Andraven, or were the species sparsely spread out, living in small communities all across the world? Did the Andraven export the Wellagrin, or were they raised only for their own personal use? Additionally, what sort of diets did the Andraven possess, and did it ever include their blubbery companions? What happened to the species in the eras following the High Republic? And we also need to ask, is “Andraven” even truly their name? Alongside these questions, it would also be worth exploring their various general worldbuilding traits, such as the species’ politics, governments, reach, advancements, society, culture, economy, exports/imports, arts, languages, history, etc.

Additional Notes: I don’t have a whole lot to say about this species outside of what I already addressed in the “Continuity” section of this article. Overall, they’re a pretty bog-standard anthropomorphic elephant species, and I really hope we learn enough in the future to really have some established lore that sets them apart from other already existing and much more popular pachydermoids. Still, I do like the overall aesthetic established for them so far, and I would love to see how they might look in other art styles and mediums, as the stylized and kid friendly models in YJA may be a tad hard to adapt without major changes.
