Biology: The Hethas were a bipedal humanoid species bearing a number of unique traits. They seemingly stood slightly taller than the average Human, around 2 meters to be exact, with the same general build and frame as Humans as well, possessing two arms, two legs, and a single head. The Hethas appeared to be on the thinner side, with large feet that had three or more toes, as well as five-fingered hands. Hethas heads were large, with elongated faces ending in two rounded chin knobs. Their faces possessed downturned mouths, exposed, vertical nostril slits in place of a true nose, and solid black eyes partially obscured by a protruding and drooping brow. On top of their craniums were two large, ribbed, fleshy lobes that extended out and back at an angle. At the front-most point of these lobes, above the Hethas’ foreheads, were angled oval “openings” that appeared to expose darker tissue or muscle, one on each side of the head. Additionally, Hethas possessed dark hair, though seemingly only on their cheeks, bottom of the lobes, and the very top of their heads.
Lore: We currently know next to nothing about the Hethas, aside from the fact that they had been discovered some time prior to the death of Jabba the Hutt. In the wake of Jabba’s death, a Hethas crime lord known as Gornt Seron, who hailed from an Inner Rim planet known as Korbin, had grown to relative prominence. He was notorious for being shrewd and ruthless, and made himself an enemy of the New Republic in their early days, though we do not know what happened to him in the end, nor where the rest of his species could be found or if Korbin may have actually been the homeworld of his entire species or not.
Continuity: The Hethas have only ever been mentioned twice within the entirety of the EU, and have never been referenced in any Canon media.
Unexplored: Since we know so little about the Hethas, it’s really difficult to pose more specific questions, so this section will primarily stick to general worldbuilding traits for the time being. So, for starters, I guess we should ask: When did the Hethas first develop sentience, what sort of creature did they evolve from, and why did they possess the very features seen during the modern age, including the shape of their head and the seemingly exposed portions of tissue? Were there any anatomical or biological traits we have yet to learn about them that set them apart from other alien species? What was the homeworld of the Hethas (if not Korbin), where in the galaxy could it be found, and when were they first discovered? Did the species have any sort of unique alliances? Were they involved in any major galactic events? Did they have any sort of intergalactic reputation? And what sort of distinct traditions or habits might they have had that could make them unique and memorable? Alongside these questions, the rest of our usual list of generic lore tidbits should also be explored eventually to serve as a good foundation!
Additional Notes: Given just how little we truly know of this species, I honestly don’t have much to comment on personally at the moment. Their design is relatively unique, if not a tad reminiscent of other older species like the Jin. If only we could’ve seen them in color, I think that maybe would’ve helped a lot. I’m genuinely surprised they never gave us an additional lore dump on the species as that usually seemed to have been the trend around this time, but at the very least they aren’t completely unidentified, so that has to count for something!
