Biology: The Kynachi were a near-Human species who could usually be considered Human-passing, at least from a distance. They shared the same general height, weight, frame, and build as the average Human, with the same pool of potential pigmentation shades. They were bipedal, with two arms, two legs, and five digits on each appendage. They also had the same facial configuration as Humans, though their eyes were either solid white, or possessed pupils that were either very faint or extremely small. Though it’s believed some of their internals were not the same as baseline Humans, the primary difference was simply the fact that their hair had the capacity to turn gold in coloration, after being exposed to types of foods found on the planet Kynachi. This reaction took place after consuming the aforementioned diet for prolonged periods of time, and those raised off of Kynachi would have silver hair instead. Kynachi spoke Galactic Basic Standard, and had the capacity to be Force Sensitive.

Lore: The Kynachi homeworld, also called Kynachi, was located within the depths of Wild Space. It was a remote world, seldom visited by offworlders, though it had been discovered by the Galactic Republic some time prior to the Separatist Crisis. Around the time of the “Invasion of Naboo,” Kynachi was also occupied, this invasion helmed by a joint representative of the Trade Federation and Techno Union known as Umbrag. Umbrag would quickly take over the driving force behind Kynachi’s economy, the corporation known as “KynachTech Industries,” forcing them to shift gears and fuel the growing Separatist movement. Ruling the planet as their overlord, Kynachi would become one of the first Separatist strongholds, with a frequency jammer preventing any outgoing communications by the native population which caused the Republic to believe they simply wanted to be left alone. Umbrag’s operation would not be discovered until over a decade later, in the midst of the Clone Wars, when the Jedi Order and GAR would finally liberate the planet and restore their access to the outside galaxy.

Continuity: The Kynachi only ever appeared once within the EU, and have yet to be referenced anywhere within Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: We know little about Kynachi history, and even less about their overall characterization and the galaxy’s perception of them. As such, we have a number of questions to address here that, if answered, would help us much better understand the Kynachi and distinguish them from other Human and Human-passing species. So, let’s begin by asking, were the Kynachi an offshoot from Humankind that was isolated and evolved unique traits long ago, or did they develop from a non-sentient being native to Kynachi and are simply the result of convergent evolution? If the latter is true, when did they first develop sentience, and if the former, when did they initially break away and settle on Kynachi, and when did they first begin to develop non-Human traits? When was the species first discovered or rediscovered, and by whom? Has the Galactic Republic known about them for quite some time, were they clients of KynachTech, and did they ever offer the Kynachi membership and representation on the Senate?

What drew the various Separatist backers to the world initially, and why specifically was their emissary a shared ambassador for both the Techno Union and Trade Federation? Did Umbrag have any sorts of personal vendettas or special plans for the world prior, or was it just another assignment for him which saw him staying and lording over the world for over a decade? Did the Republic ever even grow curious as to why the Kynachi were cutting all contact, or were they far too busy to be even the slightest bit concerned? What happened to the people during this nearly 11 year span? Were they restricted but not to an incredibly great extent, able to generally continue their prior lives as long as they didn’t attempt to reach offworld, or was existence a living nightmare, treated as little more than slaves? Did any Kynachi escape their homeworld during this time? Were there many CIS sympathizers among their people? Did any ever attempt to rebel? And what happened after they were liberated? Did they finally join the Galactic Republic, or was there not even enough time before the Empire rose to power, potentially offering yet another bout of oppression? Exploring the answers to these and other questions regarding their overall identity and general worldbuilding traits would be super beneficial, if their preexisting lore even ever makes the jump into Canon!

Additional Notes: Nothing super interesting here at the moment. I could see potential, especially in further exploring their relationships with both the CIS and Galactic Republic, however, their visual identity is rather lacking at the moment. I’d love to actually see the whole golden hair thing someday, but for now, that’s only ever been described in minimal detail. Overall, I think the species is sorely lacking either more unique anatomy or a much more compelling existence which could separate them further from the average Human, as now, they fall into an already bloated category of “too Human to be visually interesting but too alien to just be counted as a subsect of Human.” Hopefully someday we’ll see this change for the better!
