Biology: The Alazmec were a mysterious humanoid species who were bipedal in nature, sporting two arms and two legs. They had the same general height, weight, build, and frame as the average Human, standing between 1.7 and 1.8 meters tall on average. We also know they had five-fingered hands, although the majority of their bodies were otherwise completely obscured. They wore large helmets with wide-set goggles, possibly giving us some indication of the shape of their head, and the aforementioned goggles were specifically described as having night-vision capabilities, presumably meaning they could not see well in low light conditions. Alazemec appeared to be able to withstand rather extreme temperatures, and they were relatively strong and agile, with great stability and focus. We also know they were capable of pronouncing Galactic Basic with no issue.
Lore: Little is known about the Alazmec, a fact they seem to perpetuate. The entirety of the species seemed to wear full body outfits consisting of loose wrappings, long sashes and mismatched pieces of cloth, and the wide, almost bowl-like helmet with goggles mentioned above. These getups were usually earthy browns and grays in coloration, and it was common to see twigs and leaves secured to their helmets, giving off the impression that they were always attempting to camouflage themselves, regardless of surrounding. The species had been discovered and introduced into the galaxy by the height of the Galactic Civil War, and were known for their proclivity for wielding long rifles. They also seemed to have a reputation for being expert marksmen, and at least one Alazmec by the name of Loriach, became a legendary sniper and member of the Assassin’s Guild.
While we do not know exactly where the Alazmec hail from, it is very possible they originated from a mysterious astronomical object in the Outer Rim, potentially a moon or planet, known simply as “Winsit.” This is because there was a prominent religious order among the species known specifically as the “Alazmec of Winsit,” although nothing else can be gleaned about this location at the moment. The species did seem to have a longstanding history with the Sith, with almost every observed Alazmec worshiping, revering, or serving the Sith in some capacity. The Alazmec of Winsit themselves, sometimes known as Sith Cultists, were an expansive, ancient order who had long-since colonized Mustafar, venerating the various Dark Side users who had resided on the world and guarding their ancient relics, at least until they were eradicated by the First Order and Kylo Ren shortly before the Battle of Exogol.
Continuity: The Alazmec are a species exclusive to Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: One of the many species who are both intentionally mysterious, but also seldom explored up until this point, sadly remaining underdeveloped. That means that the in-universe mystery surrounding them could be much stronger, but that doesn’t mean they also have to be unestablished to us. So for starters, it would be interesting to know the answers to some of the following questions, including: Where did the Alazmec truly originate from, what were their ties to Winsit, and when were they first discovered and introduced into the galaxy? When did they first encounter the Sith, and what is the extent and depth of their connection? Are they a species who is strong in the Dark Side of the Force, or is their lack of Force Sensitivity the reason why they gravitated to serving those who possessed the strange, strong powers? How expansive was the Winzit Cult, and were they a common representation of the species, or a splinter group of outliers shunned for their extremist, dark beliefs?
Were the Alazmec ever allied with any major galactic factions such as the Galactic Republic or Rebel Alliance? Were they secretive, elusive, isolationists, or were they fairly involved with public intergalactic events? Did they have any unique exports, services, or other benefits that the galaxy sought, and what were some of the things they were most well known for? Why did they dress in the manner that they did, and why did it seem like they were always covered in plants and other earthy elements and colors? Did they possess any unique anatomical traits, and did they have limitations placed on their eyesight, or were the night vision goggles completely optional? Why did they seem to be such great shots, usually wielding rifles? And while I do enjoy what’s left to the imagination, what did, at the very least, some of their biological elements under their garments look like, including their classification (near-Human, reptilian, insectoid, etc.) and coloration(s)? Exploring the answers to maybe only a handful of these, as well as our usual list of general worldbuilding traits, really wouldn’t hurt in my opinion!
Additional Notes: I like the Alazmec, I don’t love them yet, but I like them! I also think it’s fascinating that they share a general design idea with Jawas, possessing both cloaked bodies and usually depicted with glowing yellow “eyes” (though Loriach has red instead), which at least originally made me wonder if there’s any distant relation, possibly being a long-lost offshoot of Canon version of the Kumumgah that adopted both Jawa and Tusken traits! Still, there’s a whole lot of potential for cool lore here, and their brief inclusion among the Darth Vader comic run definitely didn’t hurt our perception of them, so here’s to hoping we learn more about them as a whole soon!
