Ciasi

Last Updated: 09/12/2025

Name: Ciasi

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beastite (Rodentia)

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Gray and/or Brown

Biology: The Ciasi were a spindly, rat-like sentient species. They were a bipedal race with two arms and two legs, seemingly standing somewhere between 1.8 and 2 meters tall on average, although they often carried them with a slightly slouched posture. They had thin limbs, with long, three-toed feet, as well as four-fingered hands ending in small but pointed claws. Lending to their strange postures, Ciasi had digitigrade legs, with all four of their knees perpetually bent, while they were also usually perched on the tips of their elongated toes (it also appears there may have been pointed spurs extending out from their lower knees). They also had curved backs and prominent hip bones, giving way to a long tail with a tuft of hair at the end. Ciasi had grayish-brown, leathery skin, which was covered in sporadic, scraggly hairs.

The species had long necks, as well as an elongated trunk-like snout that curved down and out. Their mouths were incredibly wide and filled with sharp teeth, including two large tusks almost .25 meters long extending from the sides of their lower jaw and resting on the outside of their snout, as well as sometimes two additional slightly shorter fangs protruding from the front of the upper jaw. Their tiny nostril openings were perched at the tip of their snout. Their eyes were small, with large black pupils surrounded ever so slightly by what seemed to be white sclera. Their ears were also tall and pointed, seemingly granting the species a keen sense of hearing. The back of their head grew out into a point, and they were apparently capable of growing long, dark hair from the top of their heads. Ciasi seemed capable of pronouncing galactic Basic, as well as Huttese.

Lore: Little is known about the Ciasi at present as we’ve really only observed one member of the species, a podracer pilot named Slide Paramita. We know they had been discovered and introduced into the galaxy some time prior to the Invasion of Naboo. They also seemed to have been known for having rather short tempers, and had some sort of past relating to the Hutts, more than likely negative in nature. Other than that, they’re a complete enigma.

Continuity: The Ciasi currently remain exclusive to the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Unexplored: There’s quite a bit left unexplored when it comes to the Ciasi, especially, of course, regarding the current continuity. So as usual, we just need to start with: When did they first develop sentience, where did they come from, and when were they first discovered? What was the name of their homeworld, what environments did it boast, and in what part of the galaxy could it be found? Did they have any unique alliances, possibly being a part of the galactic Republic, or had they always remained independent. And were they involved in any unique aspects of galactic history? Alongside some of these initial questions, it would also be nice to see expansion regarding some other general worldbuilding aspects like their culture, society, civilizations, government, politics, economy, exports, technologies, advancements, arts, philosophies, religions, traditions, habits, unique anatomical or biological traits, diets, languages, etc.

Additional Notes: We were pretty close to getting this species in live action, as they were a design from among the podracer pilots created for Episode I: The Phantom Menace! Sadly it was cut from the final roster, but did see a second life in the Episode I: Racer game, even if their appearances is a bit harder to glean given the limited capacity for video game character models at the time. Still, we have the original concept art which gives us a fairly clear look at what the game devs were going for, and at the very least, the species got a name, which is more than most of the other cut podracer pilots recycled for this game can boast. Definitely want to see this one sometime in the future, and I think, given their design, they would be great in some sort of animated format where they can really squirm and slink around!
