Name: Deymasollian
Humanoid: No
Classification: Beast/Dwarf
Homeworld: Deymasoll
Coloration: Pink, Tan, & White
Biology: The Deymasollians were a gruff-looking alien species found in the Star Wars universe. They were bipedal in nature, with two arms and two legs, possessing squat bodies and seemingly standing no taller than 1.2 meters in height. Despite their rounded torsos, their arms were disproportionately thin and short, ending in what appeared to be four or five-fingered hands. Deymasollian heads were large and rounded, showcasing leathery, wrinkled, orangish-brown or brownish-pink flesh that was obscured by a mane of white hair. Present on at least female members of the species, this hair encased nearly their entire head, save for a small portion of their face around their mouth and eyes. The species was said to possess a “fur coat,” although to what extent this hair covered their bodies remains unclear.
Their mouths were wide and downturned, while their tiny black eyes seemed to grant them an insufficient sense of sight, requiring them to don large, illuminated, single-panel, corrective goggles. The species could live to be at least 300 years of age, but were considered to be on the older side by that stage. Their hair may have also turned white due to age, and if so, we do not know what their normal hair color(s) might be. The species was known for their extraordinary memories, able to recall events that had happened centuries prior as if it were nothing. It appeared the species had the capacity to pronounce Galactic Basic, although this cannot be 100% confirmed as of yet, and we also know nothing regarding their native tongue.
Lore: Next to nothing is currently known Deymasollians, aside from a few basic facts, such as that they hailed from the planet Deymasoll, a world that existed right on the border between the Core Worlds and the Inner Rim. This planet was notable enough to be included on many star charts, possibly due to the fact that it was located along the popular “Giju Run” and may have even been a common stop for travelers. We also known the species was known by the galaxy at least by the end of the “Cold War” era, although given their long lifespans, many of these individuals would have been born as far back as the height of the High Republic era, and had presumably been introduced into the galaxy by then, but at the very least had developed sentience long before that era had even begun. One member of the species, Faddaff Davenspon, was a known criminal who was an expert with technology, although we have no idea whether she was a good representation of her people or just an outlier.
Continuity: The Deymasollians were created specifically for the current Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: With a species like this, for this section we can say pretty much “everything.” Having a homeworld already established is actually leagues more lore than many other similar species have, but there’s still seldom established outside of that, which means we get to enter into question mode, as usual, asking ourselves about concepts that would help us better understand this species in the future! For starters, what is the significance of Deymasoll, and was it possible it was a popular stop for traders, a den for smugglers, or a resource-filled mining world? If it was a well-known world for travelers and other outsiders, what did the Deymasollians think of the whole situation? Were they the ones who opened their planet to trade and travel, profiting off of the business that continually poured in, or were they unwilling players in an industry established by outside forces who imposed their will upon the world? On that note, when was Deymasoll first discovered, by whom, and was it long or short after (or before) the species had developed sentience and/or become civilized?
Given their location, would the Deymasollians have been members of the Galactic Republic, and subsequently represented on the Republic Senate? Were they ever involved in any major galactic conflicts? And would their long lives lead to a species with heightened awareness and wisdom, or did they use their extensive experience and extreme memories for their own gain and profit? What were the species up to during various major galactic events, and had they for sure been discovered by the High Republic era? What happened to the species during the reign of the Galactic Empire or the plague of the First/Final Order, and if they offered any sort of biological advantages, is it possible they were affected by the galactic slaving industry? Exploring the answers to many of these questions, as well as general worldbuilding concepts such as their evolution, environments, architectures, exports, politics, governments, societies, economies, communities, religions, philosophies, traditions, practices, habits, diets, languages, advancements, etc. will help us have a standout species here!
Additional Notes: I couldn’t find another place to point it out, but the species bears a striking resemblance to another species that originated from the Sequels, the Bufopel. It’s possible they came from the same concept artist or piece of concept art (Louis Wiltshire designed this one, while I have yet to identify the Bufopel’s designer). Still, I enjoy the little design we have here and hope to see it fleshed out, especially if it’s within something like The High Republic!
