Biology: The Kakala were a thin humanoid species that shared at least a few surface-level traits with Humans, such as their number of limbs and being bipedal in general, as well as general height and build, standing around 1.8 meters tall on average. This is where the similarities end, however, as the Kakala were still a very unique looking species, with wrinkled, hairless, gray-blue skin. Kakala lacked noses, instead sporting a flat ridge between their eyes and mouth. Said mouth was rather small and naturally downturned, lacking pronounced lips and just short of forming into what could have been described as a bill. They also had one row of flat white teeth protruding from each jaw. We know the species had at least one native tongue, but given the shape of their mouths, we have yet to confirm whether or not they could correctly or clearly pronounce Galactic Basic.

As for their eyes, they were solid, potentially black or dark gray, and sunken into the Kalala’s face, surrounded by symmetrical wrinkles. These wrinkles extended up from their neck, concentrated on their cheeks, as well as their temples. The upper wrinkles actually separated further, eventually forming into numerous head tendrils that extended up and over the Kakala’s head, flanking the ears on the sides of their head, and dangling down to their upper back, alongside occasionally being hung over their shoulders. These tendrils grew darker in coloration, as well as gaining a ribbed texture that grew more and more concentrated toward the tips. The purpose of these tendrils is currently unclear, however, there is a high chance that, like species like the Nautolans, Mikkians, or Feeorin, they served as a cluster of extrasensory organs capable of precisely detecting various elements including but not limited to the “five senses.”

Lore: We currently know next to nothing about the species in a collective sense, however, they had been discovered and integrated into the galaxy by the Galactic Civil War era, and some of them were associated with criminal organizations, or were at the very least, unsavory characters.

Legends/Canon: The Kakala are a species that originated a few years after the official Canon was established and have no origins within the EU.

Unexplored: It’s definitely the standard fare when it comes to exploring the Kakala at the moment: explain some of their unique biological/anatomical traits more in-depth, and go into detail regarding the standard worldbuilding concepts such as, but not limited to, origins, evolution, history, architecture, discovery, allyships, homeworld, advancements, achievements, exports, arts, society, government, politics, economy, reputation, reach, philosophies, religions, traditions, habits, cultural practices, and status/involvement within major galactic events!

Additional Notes: There really isn’t a lot to work with here right now, but I don’t dislike the design! It is interesting to look at the initial sort of misinformation that was spread about them. Hopefully it will have been changed by the time you’re reading this, but Wookieepedia used to have the species listed as both “diminutive” and “gray” in coloration. I could see how the species as seen in Andor could be viewed as gray-blue, although I believe they were just taking it from the initial black-and-white image we were initially provided via the Batuu Bounty app that introduced us to the species. As for the height, said image, which was displayed on the forefront of the Wookieepedia page, showcases how they’re as tall as the average Humanoid species, so I have no idea where that was pulled from. Maybe it’s I who is lacking information, and for some I remember seeing a dark red Kakala somewhere, possibly a cut costume from TROS, although I could just be remember the Reesarians instead. I’ll keep looking for more info and update this if I locate anything else!
