Name: Teevan
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Teevan
Coloration: Silver
Biology: Teevans were a near-Human species who were almost Human-passing, save for really one key detail. The Teevan’s unique pigmentation made their skin a semi-reflective silver color. Their bodies were a solid shade of metallic light gray, save for their hair, which we know could be black, and possibly other colors as well. This included their locks, eyebrows, eyelashes, facial hair, etc. Teevan eyes also possessed dark brown or possibly black irises, while their sclera were silver.
Teevans were renowned for their extreme flexibility, able to contort their bodies and bend their joints in ways Humans generally could not. This made them much more naturally acrobatic than most Humanoids, and generally allowed them shake off injuries that would have caused sprains of broken bones for others. The extent of their flexibility is currently unclear, however, it’s reasonable to believe that pretty much all of their joints could be classified as “hypermobile.”
We do not know what their native tongue is called or sounds like, but Teevans could clearly and easily speak Basic. They were observed to have similar life cycles and spans to that of Humans. Both male and female Teevans existed, and it is possible but not confirmed that they could be able to cross-breed with Humans or other near-Human species. In addition, every Teevan we’ve observed so far has been Force Sensitive, however, this may or may not be indicative of their species’ natural M-Counts overall as we’ve only ever really explored 2 members of the species (so far).
Lore: Next to nothing is known about the Teevan as a whole, nor their homeworld, also named Teevan. We do know that said planet was located within the Outer Rim, and it was generally described as being silver in coloration, possessing “silvery seas” that were most likely not made up of traditional H2O. We can also seemingly glean from their very rare appearances that the Teevans were more than likely not a galactic powerhouse, were most likely not widespread or a major colonial force, and most likely remained primarily centered on their homeworld instead of dispersed evenly across the galaxy as seen with many other more “common species.”
The Teevans appeared to have a good relationship with the Jedi Order, and were clearly known by the Republic for quite some time; well before the Clone Wars, and as early as the beginning of the High Republic era. Being located within the “Bright Jewel Oversector,” there is a decent chance that the Teevans were at least somewhat affected by the Clone Wars, and were more than likely placed under Imperial jurisdiction after the War’s conclusion. Unfortunately, we don’t know enough to dive any deeper than that, although at least one member of the species was affiliated with the “Path of the Open Hand” by 382 BBY.
Legends/Canon: The Teevans originated from late Star Wars Legends media, which is where we received all of their current illustrations, anatomical descriptions, and details regarding their homeworld. They are now Canon, although that is only because they were mentioned briefly by name in one novel from within the “The High Republic” multimedia event, which is where we saw a member among the ranks of the Path of the Open Hand cult. Aside from that, however, we know next to nothing about them canonically, and cannot say for sure that they will share a similar description/appearance (although if so, they will share some similarities with another High Republic species known as the Soikan).
Unexplored: As you can tell, there’s quite a bit here left completely open, especially in regards to the species canonically. As usual, I’m going to use their limited Legends lore as a basis to pose a few potential questions worth answering, however, really anything could be done with the name and subsequent species in Canon. So for starters, we need to ask questions like: When were the Teevans first discovered? When did they first develop sentience? How advanced are they as a whole in relation to the rest of the galaxy? What is Teevan like, is the whole planet silver or just the oceans, and if it is all silver-clad, why? What could have possibly made the planet and people like that? An abundance of minerals that made their way into the Teevan bloodstream, an overbearing sun that can only be countered by naturally reflective material, or maybe the answer is “just because?”
In addition, we need to know if the Teevans ever joined or were made a part of the Galactic Republic, and how they would have been represented among the Senate? Were they ever pulled into any major conflicts, whether against the Sith, the Nihil, the Separatists, or anyone else? Were they subjugated by the Empire, and if they were a naturally Force Sensitive species, how would that might have affected how they were treated? Did they ever form any other major alliances, or were they ever involved in any other major galactic events? What sort of reputation did they have among the galaxy, and were they a reserved species, or just seemingly rare because members of the race never did anything to really stand out? Is it possible they had a dwindling population? And if their homeworld was as beautiful and shiny as theorized, did they potentially have any unique exports or mining opportunities?
Additionally, we need to pose the usual broad worldbuilding questions, such as asking what their evolution, history, architecture, civilizations, society, government, economy, nations or factions, technologies, clothing/arts/music, traditions, religions and philosophies, potential militaries, habits, and/or cultural practices were like? It would also be great to have additional depictions, regardless of the medium, so that we can get a good idea of what they’re like in Canon, both in appearance and physical dexterity. The possibility is definitely there now that they have been officially mentioned in The High Republic media, and it’s exciting to think we may have the chance to see this species better than we ever have before!
Additional Notes: What can I say? It’s not an especially clever design, just another recolored Human, which I feel like I’ve been covering a lot lately. Still, the silver coloration is on the more unique end of the spectrum, and the idea of a silver species coming from a silver world is fascinating. The whole flexibility thing is also always a pretty fun trait that can give way to some cool characters, but we’ve barely seen it utilized to its full potential, so really the best we can ask is to see more of this species before it can really solidify itself as one of the more original and outstanding near-Human species!
