Waluna

Last Updated: 11/7/2023

Name: Waluna

Humanoid: No

Classification: Beast (Bovine)

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Blue, Purple, Orange, & Tan

Biology: The Waluna were a large, almost bovine-like sentient species, although they didn’t really fit into any established beast-like archetypes. They stood approximately 2.4 meters tall and were seemingly around 1.2 meters wide on average. Their large frames were due to both engorged musculature and an excess of stored fat, meaning they were much stronger than your average sentient species, but also had rolling areas of flabby skin around their stomach and ankles. Waluna had primarily purplish-blue skin, which grew orangish-tan near their faces, ears, lower arms and hands, as well as their toes and bottom of their feet. Even on the tan areas, and in the gradients between the two colors, dark blue mottled spots could be found. Walunas seemingly had a thin layer of hair or fuzz growing almost exclusively on the blue portions of their body, most evident around their legs.

Waluna had six limbs in total, four legs and two arms. Their legs were situated in an even way, as to support their large upper body, with two in the back and two in the front. Each of these legs was short and pudgy, possessing knees that seemingly stayed permanently bent. Their feet each possessed three large toes with short, blue toenails. Waluna arms were much longer than their legs, while remaining equally as thick, reaching almost all the way to the ground and causing them to usually rest them on their front set of knees.Their hands had four fingers each, sporting much longer, blue claws compared to the nails on their feet. Waluna had broad shoulders, wide torsos, and pronounced bosoms, with a slight hunch to their natural posture given the general shape of their body.

Waluna heads were massive, with wide mouths and almost no visible lips, large, flat, white teeth, deep, visible dimples, tall nostril slits located on the upper sides of a prominent nose-like ridge, and small, widespread, deep-set eyes usually sporting blue or green sclera and surrounded by long, black eyelashes. Waluna had large wrinkled foreheads and presumably a smooth rounded top of their head. Their large bovine-like ears protruded straight out from the sides of their head, covered in a thin layer of ear fuzz. Directly behind their ears hung two long headtails, one extending from each side of their head. These appendages appeared to be a form of sensory organ, seemingly making them a form of “lekku.” Taking on a hair-like appearance not dissimilar to braids, these headtails possessed a spiral pattern due to a dark, indented streak that wrapped itself all the way around the organ from top to bottom. These growths were long enough that the tips usually touched the ground.

As mentioned above, Waluna were strong. However, given their unusual build, they were not a very quick species. They often lumbered about, waddling in an almost caterpillar-like manner, and were seemingly incapable of running at any reasonable speed. Walunas were very resilient, and seemed capable of consuming large quantities of food. They also may have had a level of enhanced senses, especially relating to hearing, smell, and surprisingly eyesight. It is inferred that this species possesses some form of extended lifespan, at the very least longer than that of the average Human. And the Waluna were capable of pronouncing Galactic Basic fluently, speaking in what many would consider to be a bellowing tone. The exact purpose of their supposed lekku remains unclear, as does what the backside of their body looks like and whether or not they possess a tail. In addition, we have not yet seen a male instance of this species, nor a juvenile, so many details could differ between the sexes and stages of life.

Lore: Not much is yet known about the Waluna as a species. The only known instance as of the publishing of this article is Doma Dendra, a denizen of Rambler’s Reach on the planet Koboh. Koboh is not the Waluna’s homeworld, their world of origin remaining unrevealed at this time. It is believed that the species is a relatively peaceful one who seldom has to deal with predatory species. But aside from that, we have no idea whether Doma is a solid indication of what the average member of her species may be like, or if, given her place away from her people, she is a complete outlier among the Waluna.

Legends/Canon: This species was created for and is exclusive to Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: Some of this was discussed above, including details regarding their anatomy, physiology, and biology, as well as their homeworld. In addition, it would be fantastic if elements surrounding their evolutionary history, origins, society, culture, social practices, languages, architecture, clothing, intergalactic relations, allegiances, exports, economy, governments, and their current whereabouts could be fleshed out! Until we learn a little more, it will be hard to pinpoint what specific details surrounding this species need the most answers or improvements!

Additional Notes: From the moment I was this species in some leaked Jedi: Survivor images, it became an instant favorite! I’m so very glad it was one of the few new species in the game to receive a name. I’m hoping now that they’ve become fairly well known among the fandom, we’ll start seeing more of them pop up elsewhere, and with that, we’ll get more and more expanded lore. Now it’s only a matter of time!
