Name: Troglof
Humanoid: No
Classification: Teacup/Alternative
Homeworld: Troglofa
Coloration: Orange or Brown
Biology: The Troglof were a small sentient species with some unique traits. They stood approximately .3 meters tall, weighing so little that the average humanoid could easily pick them up. They had coarse, leathery skin that was usually orange, orangish-brown, tan, or even gray, with mottled spots and a ridged texture, the ridge lines extending from their lower torso all the way up to their face, both on the front and back. Troglofs were also almost entirely hairless, save for a small spot on the upper back of their head, where they could grow a cluster of long, black hairs.
This species possessed four stubby legs with seemingly two tiny claws on each. Given their size and the shape of their lower body, Troglof were not incredibly quick and sort of waddled around when they walked. They also had two long, noodle-like arms with two tendril-like fingers at the end that could grasp onto objects relatively easily. Troglofs did not possess a true neck, with their torso directly giving way to their head. They had no visible nostrils or aural cavities. They did have large, protruding mouths surrounded by pronounced jowls and lips, as well as a small set of white, razor-sharp teeth. They also had two small eyestalks on top of their head that ended in tiny, squinted, solid black eyes. These eye stalks could be moved independently of each other, seemingly giving Troglofs a wide FOV and multiple perspectives at once.
Troglofs had the capacity to speak both Basic and their currently unnamed native tongue. They were also known for being surprisingly loud for their size. The size and shape of their mouth also makes it seem as though they may be able to swallow large food whole, not unlike a snake or even a pitcher plant. It is said that Troglofs secreted a musk that was pleasant to other species; potentially some sort of pheromone used for either hunting or attracting mates. We have yet to see a female Troglof, nor have we learned anything about their reproduction specifics, adolescence and growth times, or life cycles and max life spans.
Lore: In-universe, the Troglofs remain somewhat mysterious and are considered a rare site out among the greater galaxy. While initially unknown, their homeworld has since been revealed to be the Outer Rim planet of Troglofa, located within incredibly close proximity to the infamous planet of Felucia. Despite this reveal, all other details surrounding their species, history, and culture have so far been closely guarded. Troglofs are seen as a valuable species, easily landing high paying jobs throughout the galaxy, although it appears as though this is less due to any natural skill and more simply because of their sweet secretions that put everyone around them at ease and in a good mood. This is especially useful in establishments such as casinos, as seen with croupier Thamm at Canto Bight.
Legends/Canon: The Troglof are exclusive to Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: As stated above, the Troglofs remain semi-intentionally mysterious. There are certain things regarding their rarity that can and should maybe remain unexplored, however, it would still be interesting to learn at least a little bit more about concepts relating to their homeworld, life cycles, biological and anatomical traits, history with the greater galaxy and major factions, views on their own secrecy and how the other galactic denizens treat them, major religions, habits and cultural practices, Troglof-based groups, organizations, or manufacturers, or even just details surrounding their original language and speech patterns.
Additional Notes: The Troglofs have a super fun design and I’m glad they stayed true to Jake Lunt Davies original concept art! He actually read this article prior to me writing this sentence and gave me a few pointers, including confirming that they did have teeth (which can actually be seen during Canto Bight Deleted Scenes). I hope we can still see and learn more about them in the future, even if it has to be outside of live action giving the puppet limitations evident there. Give me a Troglof Jedi Master please!
