Name: Ab’Ugartte
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Alternative/Beastite (Lagamorphite)
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Yellow, Green, or Orange
Biology: The Ab’Ugarttes were a sentient species found occasionally throughout the Star Wars galaxy. They stood approximately 2 meters tall on average, with a large bipedal build and naturally slouched posture. They had large muscles and seemingly leathery skin, that maybe have been varying shades of yellow, green, or orange, although we technically cannot confirm the exact color given the strange lighting that this species has always been viewed in. Ab’Ugarttes have large, four-fingered hands with long, sharp fingernails.
Ab’Ugarttes had large heads with long faces and rather pointed chins. They had wide, upturned mouths full of massive teeth. They had large, white eyes with beady, black pupils. And they had long, floppy ears that hung down all the way to their lower chest. Ad’Ugarttes seemed to possess particularly immense physical strength as indicated by their bulky musculature. They also seemed to have the ability to pronounce Galactic Basic, although to what extent of clarity or ease is unknown.
Lore: Nothing is known about the Ab’Ugarttes as a species aside from the fact that they were fairly prolific warriors and could be found within the galaxy during the years following the official collapse of the Galactic Empire. The most well known instance, Jak Sazz, was also incredibly antisocial, filthy, and vile, partaking in criminal behaviors including theft and slavery. It is unclear, however, whether Sazz was a good representation of his species’ reputation as a whole, or whether he was simply an outlier among the Ab’Ugarttes and the others were generally more well-kempt and well-integrated into galactic society.
Continuity: The Ab’Ugarttes are currently exclusive to Star Wars Legends.
Unexplored: This is one of those species that needs the basics explored before we can dive into any in-depth details, since we really have almost nothing to go off of. These basic establishing concepts include the Ab’Ugarttes origins, evolution, history, architecture, homeworld, environments, civilizations, arts, philosophies, religions, politics, governmental structure, galactic alliances, economy, natural exports, technologies, relationships to other species or groups, involvement in major events, and whereabouts during various well known eras. Exploring whether or not they were usually unhygienic, misanthropic, and unpleasant would also be helpful!
Additional Notes: There’s not a whole lot to say about this one as it stands, and I hate that we’ve never received a better illustration. The Dark Empire comic book art, while respectably stylized, is always so hard to decipher and just kind of ugly. Still, I’m not the only person to show a desire to see this species further and more clearly. So maybe we’ll get mention of them in some sort of Canon media which will lead to our first full, clean look at this hulking, almost unsettling design!
