Terrelian Jango Jumper

Last Updated: 11/13/2023

Name: Terrelian Tango Jumper/Terrelian

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Terrelia

Coloration: Blue, White, Gray, or Green

Biology: Terrelian Jango Jumpers, also sometimes just referred to as Terrelians, were a tall, lanky human-like species that evolved on their home planet of Terrelia. Terelia, presumably a jungle-covered planet, would provide its native population the need to develop specific evolutionary traits. These Terrelian locals stood approximately 2 meters tall, known for their thin yet muscular frames. Biologically they were relatively similar to baseline Humans, although their pigmentation could range anywhere from white to blue to even a dull green, with distinct, natural markings found across their body regardless of color.

This species generally possessed very little in the way of hair, although at least a few did sport bright red hair which grew from only a small area on the very top of their head. Their eyes were also red, and their developed vocal chords allowed for them to easily speak Basic. Depending on where they were born, individuals could either possess four or five fingers per hand, being able to move their pinkies like a second opposable thumb regardless. They also had two-toed feet, and often opted to remain shoeless to give them extra grip should a situation where it was required arise.

The main difference between the Terrelian Jango Jumpers and most other Near-Humans was their incredible flexibility, stamina, and agility, hence their unusual name. Terrelian Jango Jumpers could leap incredible distances and jump incredible heights, sometimes even out jumping natural Force users. Their agility meant they could outrun most species, animal or otherwise, and their quick-functioning brains allowed them to make snap decisions while on the move. Their extreme metabolism did not allow for them to gain much excess weight, and they could consciously conserve their bodily energy, giving them seemingly near-limitless stamina. It is not entirely clear how this was achieved due to their lack of body mass, but they did have visible musculature covering their thin, lengthy bones. Paired with the potential to have an above average midichlorian count, Terrelian Jango Jumpers could truly be some of the most agile and athletic sentient humanoids in the galaxy.

Lore: We do not know much about the Terrelian Jango Jumper society as a whole, but we do know that individually, certain members of the species were renowned for their natural abilities galaxy-wide, and many became professional athletes and bounty hunters outside of Terrelia. They were very proud, not only of their abilities, but of their full species title as “Jango Jumpers,” and did not usually like being referred to as just “Terrelians.” Surprisingly not much else is known about them, although they had a rather large presence in the galaxy during the Clone Wars era. Despite this, we currently have no evidence that they allied themselves with either the Republic nor the Separatists, although at least one did become a Jedi (and later an Imperial Inquisitor). They were still around during the Galactic Civil War as well, although we do not know their ultimate fate as a species during the many trying times to come.

Legends/Canon: Terrelian Jango Jumpers did exist in Star Wars Legends, although because everything we knew about them at the time came directly from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, their transition into Canon was seamless and none of their lore was “lost.”

Unexplored: We may know information about individual Terrelian Jango Jumpers, but knowledge about the species as a whole is scarce at best, if they even did have a unified society on Terrelia. The first thing to explore would be the extent of their natural abilities, and if they varied widely from individual to individual. How do their appendages survive the shock of an immense leap without absorbing the impact with something like the Force? Do they have a natural “healing factor” like some other similar species? What exactly is their homeworld like, and what caused them to evolve such extensive acrobatic, seemingly survival or predatory-related abilities? And are they the apex predators or simply prey on Terrelia? Aside from that, it is well past due to thoroughly explore their history, culture, traditions, and even their future as a species, as we have rarely seen them during the Galactic Civil War and Cold War eras, nor in something like The High Republic yet.

Additional Notes: I think the Terrelian Jango Jumpers are actually pretty interesting for a relatively Near-Human race, and they definitely need some more lore development, either in official Canon or even just in your own fan stories. I personally believe they serve as a canonical semi-replacement for the Rattataki (specifically with how they were presented within the EU), who were Ventress’ original species before she was soft-retconned to be a “Dathomirian Zabrack” instead. Both species are bald, lanky, acrobatic, and possess skin that exceeds the range of Human colorations, possessing similar markings, and a similar history of being naturally dangerous and agile warriors. Either way, their unique abilities make them a great species for a number of fun and cool professions which would be perfect to include in whatever project you may be working on!
