Name: Rawanikola
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Dwarf/Alternative
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Unknown
Biology: Very little is known about the Rawanikolas’ actual biology, as the majority of their bodies are usually obscured by clothing and such. We do know that they are a diminutive species, seemingly standing no taller than 1.5 meters in height. They have rounded bodies with slightly hunched backs, as well as what appeared to be elongated heads, although due to the protective helmets they wore, it is hard to glean an actual shape or measurement of any portion of their body.
If these helmets do conform to a Rawanikolas’ actual head shape, then they have tall craniums and low hanging jaws. They also have room for a Human-sized nose, as well as slits for rather large eyes. In addition, a tube can always be seen extending from the back of their helmet, which may indicate that they are utilizing some sort of respirator of life support technology to survive out among the galaxy. They appear to have preferred dwelling on desert planets such as Jakku or even Tatooine, which may give some indication into their native climate.
Lore: We really do know next to nothing about this species, outside of the fact that the one of the only instances we know of hails from Jakku and is a wanted criminal. Their crimes are all of the financial variety, aside from the fact that they also stole… toys? As to why shoplifting children’s playthings was a priority for them, we don’t really know. Until we learn more, we can only extrapolate information from the few instances we’ve seen, but at the very least we know they had been discovered and introduced into the rest of the galaxy sometime prior to the start of the First Order-Resistance War.
Legends/Canon: The Rawanikola are exclusive to Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: If you couldn’t tell from my statements above, almost every aspect surrounding the Rawanikolas requires extensive exploration. Where do they come from, what do they actually look like, what do they sound like, are they using a life support system, why are they usually spotted on desert worlds, etc. are some of the many questions to ask when expanding upon the Rawanikolas, whether in official Star Wars media or even just any fan work you may be working on. But until we learn more about the basics of the species’ worldbuilding, including their history, origins, government, society, culture, economy, religions, habits, traditions, languages, biological traits, and other such defining characteristics, it’s difficult to even have a starting point for further exploring this species within the overall Star Wars universe.
Additional Notes: This species is in a really weird place. Their official profile image and name were revealed thanks to a Disney Play AR minigame known as “Star Wars: Datapad – Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters,” specifically through the MagicBand+ at Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge theme park. This makes their origins bizarrely obscure, and as it stands, most Star Wars fans will never actually come across them unless scanning through The Force Awakens frame-by-frame. Hopefully someday they’ll reveal the full-body, colored version of the image from the app, but until then we have very little to work with…
