Name: Muttani
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Alternative
Homeworld: Kalidorn
Coloration: Green
Biology: The Muttani were an ogre-like sentient species found in the Star Wars galaxy. They were large, hulking creatures with thick, muscular, bipedal frames. They stood approximately 2 meters in height, although they often had a naturally slouched posture. Their skin was a sickly green color, although it sometimes shifted to shades of greenish-tan. Their skin was also coarse, wrinkled, and completely hairless. They had large four-toed feet, as well as four-fingered hands, with large nails found on both their hands and feet.
Muttani had very little neck, with a large, bumpy, elongated head. They had pointed ears, yellow eyes with black pupils, upturned noses, and large overbites with large, jagged, disheveled teeth and flat lips. The skin on their head was particularly lumpy, blubbery, and cracked. Muttani were also known for producing a putrid, musky odor, as well as constantly being covered in sores and abscesses. Muttani were incredibly strong and irrational, able to fly into blind rages. And despite their odd mouth shapes, they were capable of pronouncing Galactic Basic.
Lore: Muttani were known for their gruff personalities and explosive aggression. They were also known for being generally repulsive, both in appearance and odor, carrying filth and disease wherever they went. A reputation like this ensured that many Muttani became violent and infamous galactic criminals. In addition, Muttani were generally considered mysterious, with their homeworld of Kalidorn (sometimes mistakenly referred to as Kaldun) located deep within the unexplored regions of Wild Space.
Legends/Canon: The Muttani are currently exclusive to Star Wars Legends.
Unexplored: There’s still quite a lot left unexplained in regards to these Star Wars ogres, which can be further fleshed out by answering the following questions. What is Kalidorn like? Is it equally as vile as the Muttani, or maybe it’s ironically beautiful? Given their place within Wild Space, how recently were they discovered and by whom? Did they get along with other races or galactic governments or organizations, or were they generally avoided? Did they bring any unique disease or pestilence with them when they spread out into the greater galaxy? And what were their baseline intelligence levels, as they aren’t exactly perceived as the most intelligent species in the galaxy?
Did the Muttani possess any unique unseen biological or anatomical traits? What sort of creature did they evolve from, what about Kalidorn caused them to evolve in the manner that they did, and how long ago did they fully achieve sentience? What sort of governmental structure, if any, did they possess? What was Muttani culture and society like? Did they have a unique economy, exports, services or even arts? And were many caught up in galactic crimes? Did the Muttani have any unique habits, religions, philosophies, traditions, ways of speaking, architecture, cultural customs, etc. that could set them apart from other species in the galaxy? And what would they look like in different styles, such as an animated series or even live action?
Additional Notes: Star Wars Shrek. That’s really all I need to say about this species. It’s a fun idea, and the sickly nature of their design definitely adds an air of uniqueness to the Muttani as a whole. However, they still remain rather obscure within the crevices of Star War Legends, and we can only hope they’ll make their way into Star Wars Canon sooner rather than later, although they now have to compete with species like the Artiodacs.
