Rekk

Name: Rekk

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Rekkana

Coloration: Varied

Biology: The Rekk were a colorful humanoid species found in the Star Wars galaxy. They had the same general height, build, and shape as the average Human or near-Human species, standing approximately 1.8 meters in height with relatively thin frames (although they could put on excess weight). They had a wide variety of potential pigmentations, including blue, blueish-green, red, orange, yellow, brown, or tan. They also had protruding, pointed bones extending from the end of their elbows with two discolored ovals on each forearm. These markings were usually a different shade, either lighter or darker, than whatever color the rest of their skin was.

Rekk had bright red or pink eyes, the color engulfing their sclera and irises, although their pupils were black. They had pronounced brows, and large eyelashes. They had nose-like ridges with no visible nostril openings, and two long lobes dangled from the bottom of this growth. Rekk had large mouths, and wrinkled cheeks or eye bags regardless of age. Their long, pointed ears extended directly out from the sides of their head. And they may have had an elongated dome, although it is currently unclear given the unique hats that they always wore. Rekk appeared to be hairless outside of their eyelashes. They could also pronounce Galactic Basic, and were known for being highly intelligent and adaptable.

Lore: The Rekk were native to the planet Rekkana, a desolate, rocky world that sported great riches. The Rekk themselves were highly religious, fairly wealthy, and generally peaceful. Because of this, and just the general abundance of the Rekk population, Rekkana was conquered by the Galactic Empire and its people were transformed into a slave labor force. Surprisingly, they took this fairly well and contributed their innate understanding of technology and engineering to the manufacturing of Imperial TIE Fighters.

The Rekk’s Chancellor Asera was kept locked up and separated from their holy artifact, the Totem of Saglanost, which caused much of their apathy. Without the support of the totem, despite outnumbering the Imperial occupiers nine-to-one, the Rekk believed they stood no chance against their oppressors. Thankfully, Lando Calrissian with some help from Jaxxon T. Tumperakki helped free the Rekk, and reunite the chancellor with her totem, which has been lifted from Palpatine’s personal collection. This would halt the Imperial war efforts near Rekkana, and would allow the Rekk to later join up with the New Republic.

Legends/Canon: The Rekk are exclusive to Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: There is definitely still a lot to explore in regards to the Rekk’s past and future. Here are some questions that, if thoroughly explored, would help further set the Rekk apart from the myriad of other similar species within Star Wars Canon. For starters, what is Rekkana like, what caused the Rekk to evolve in the manner they did, when did they first develop sentience, and what did they evolve from? When were the Rekk first discovered, and by whom? Were they allied with any major galactic factions or political assemblies? Why did they have such a natural proclivity for technology? And what sort of history and establishing lore did the Rekk possess? What happened to the Rekk during different eras, including post-Empire? And did they have any other unique exports, religious beliefs, artifacts, philosophies, technologies, habits, etc. that set them apart?

Additional Notes: While a little basic, mostly due to the art style that they were illustrated in, I do like the Rekk design, especially the nose lobes, elbows, and wide variety of colors. There’s some interesting religious and traumatic lore here as well, and since they are already Canon, despite the obscure nature of their lone appearance, they still stand a chance for further exploration, whether after their subjugation or even long before in eras such as the Old or High Republic! I’d also be very interested to see them appear in live action, or at least a live action-like animated style!
