Biology: The Mostlaa were a diminutive weasel-like bipedal sentient species. On average, they stood approximately 1.3 meters in height, with rough brown skin and large extremities. They had long, two-toed feet with flexible ankles. They also had hairy torsos and slightly hunched backs. Their large heads sported gruff features and long brown hair, with males and potentially females capable of growing long beards. Mostlaa also had lumpy foreheads, pronounced brows, sunken, beady eyes, large noses, bulging lips, protruding lips, and pointed ears. Mostlaas had a very good sense of hearing, and were believed to be able to see well, especially in dark environments. They were a very nimble species, capable of running upright or on all fours. They also had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic.

Lore: Mostlaa were known for being gruff but shrewd, moving quickly and slyly, and often scheming or deliberating. It was common to find them working for or even advising crime lords, and we have never seen Mostlaa in groups of more than one. The name and location of their homeworld remained a complete mystery, although they had been discovered and introduced to the greater galaxy by the start of the Galactic Civil War. Mostlaas were also known for wearing flowing robes with hoods that allowed them to obscure their identity and sneak around at any given moment.

Legends/Canon: The Mostlaa are exclusive to a random source from early Star Wars Legends.

Unexplored: There’s not much to go off og with the Mostlaa, with most of their lore being gleaned from the one and only individual we’ve actually ever seen. This makes them ripe for exploration, especially on the off chance that they randomly make it into Star Wars Canon. Questions that, if answered, could help flesh out and set apart the Mostlaa as a unique and memorable species include the following: Where did the Mostlaa come from? What was the name of their homeworld and what was it like? Was it located in a known or unknown part of space? And was it and the Mostlaa allied with any major galactic faction?

When were the Mostlaa discovered? What sort of history did they have? How long did they live and were they considered ancient or a species who had freshly developed sentience? Were they subterranean, or maybe well suited for rocky or jungle environments? What other unique biological or anatomical traits did they have? Did they have any distinct political or governmental systems, economic arrangements or exports, religious beliefs or philosophies, habits or traditions, etc.? Were they involved in any major wars, catastrophes, or other era defining events? What were their links to the Hutts and other criminal groups, empires, or organizations? Were all the instances we’ve seen so far outliers or the norm for the species? And were they an obscure species in-universe, or were they relatively known by galactic standards?

Additional Notes: If you want to talk about obscure Legends species, look no further than the Mostlaa. I would argue that 99% of the fandom has never heard of and will never hear of this species. I didn’t even learn about them until I accidentally discovered their one and only illustration on Google images while researching for a different article. This was after I had believed I had discovered every Legends species in existence, so the fact that they were able to slip through the cracks is impressive. Still, I would be interested to see something so obscure make their Canon debut in something like The High Republic, although I’m not so sure even Star Wars remembers the existence of this particular alien. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see!
