Velabri

Name: Velabri

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Velabri

Coloration: Tan and Silver

Biology: The Velabri were a very Near-Human species, almost exclusively distinguishable by their unique pigmentation and hair. They had the same general height, weight, build, organs, anatomy, and lifespan as the average Human. However, they were very pale, and had shiny, silver hair that would grow only in a mohawk-style patch on the tops of their head. They also had pale silver eyes, and were particularly susceptible to strong sunlight. Velabris had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic, and as far as we know, they were capable of breeding with Humans or other compatible Near-Human species.

Lore: The Velabri were a fairly simplistic species, being rather intentionally primitive in their ways and generally on the isolationist side of the communal spectrum. They were rarely seen outside of their homeworld, also named Velabri, and had no form of advanced technology such as spacefaring vessels. The Velabri generally opposed traditional “progress,” and refused to change any of their strict codes and practices. These included the refusal to commit anything that could be designated as a “crime,” as well as committing themselves to a life debt known as a “Velabri Bloodvow” should anyone valiantly save their life. They were also just generally a race of proud warriors, and preferred resolving anything and everything through conflict if at all possible. During the Galactic Civil War they were also conquered and enslaved by the Galactic Empire, although what happened to them after that event was never revealed.

Legends/Canon: The Velabri have only ever appeared in Legends media.

Unexplored: There’s a lot that can still be explored in regards to the Velabri’s lore in Legends, that is if any of it ever even makes its way into Canon. If not, then they are a completely blank slate that can really be taken any way needed. But under the guise that they are essentially made the same in Canon, then here are some questions to ask that would help flesh them out and make the Velabri all the more memorable. First and foremost, what would they look like in live action, or even just a colored illustration? We’ve only ever seen them in black and white, with descriptions of how they are intended to appear. So are there any other unique traits surrounding them besides their hair, skin, and eyes?

What is the world of Velabri like? What caused them to evolve their specific traits? Did they evolve from Human settlers long ago, or do they possess a completely different origin? Can they breed with Humans, and what would a hybrid look like? Were they allied with the Galactic Republic or any other kind of faction? What were the details surrounding their occupation by the Empire? And when and how were they ever freed? Did they devote their lives to the Rebel Alliance/New Republic? And what sort of history did they have following that event? Of course, also exploring more general concepts such as their governmental structure, planetary environment, society, history, economy, exports, art, traditions, habits, religions, cultural practices, etc. will help to really establish them as a fleshed out and unique member of the Star Wars universe.

Additional Notes: This is one of those species that really is whatever. They’re slightly more unique than some Near-Human species, but there’s not enough here to really set them apart or ensure that they end up as someone’s favorite species. Hoping we see more of them in Canon, with updated lore and illustrations, but until then, they’ll just remain here for any fan authors who want to take a crack at writing a Near-Human character but don’t want to get “too alien” with all of it!
