Biology: Very little is known about Niordi anatomy or biology as the only instances we’ve seen have undergone extreme alterations to their bodies, turning them into more machine than man. From what we do know, the Niordi were a fairly Near-Human race, standing slightly taller than the average Human (approximately 2 meters on average), with two arms, two legs, two eyes, and other humanoid features. Their skin was apparently dull and gray, and they may have potentially possessed some sort of a tail. They also had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic, although that is all that has ever been revealed about the baseline species.

Lore: The Niordi were a mysterious species hailing from the Unknown regions, specifically on a planet in a system both named Niorde. Little is known about their existence prior to the Clone Wars, although they had been in a longstanding war with an unnamed neighboring planet harboring an unnamed sentient species. This war was bloody, with many fierce warriors on both sides falling over the years, however, the Niordi eventually began to emerge victorious. Not accepting this defeat, the other race hired the deadly Lugubraa “Leech Legions” to wipe out the Niordi entirely.

Realizing this was not a force they could overcome, the Niordi enacted a last ditch effort plan to try and level the playing field. Selecting some of their greatest warriors, they were subjected to cybernetic enhancements, transforming their bodies into living weapons. These Niordi weapon warriors had their upper bodies replaced with massive cannons and armor plating, although the process took an unexpectedly long time and many of the candidates would die while undergoing it. By the time they were ready, most of the Niordi population had been killed, and although they put up a valiant fight, only one Niordi, a living weapon named D’harhan, would survive the war. Leaving his conquered homeworld, he would flee towards the Core where he would pursue a life as a Bounty Hunter.

Legends/Canon: The Niordi have currently ever appeared in Legends media.

Unexplored: We never really learned much about the Niordi aside from the glimpse of their history and the appearance of D’harhan. Should they ever appear in Canon with their Legends lore intact, then here are some additional aspects that should be explored. What did unaltered Niordi look like? What was their homeworld like? When did they develop sentience? What sort of space-faring technology did they create? Who were their neighboring species and what caused the hatred between them? How long ago did their war start? When was the cybernetic super soldier program first devised? What was the project like, what procedures did they undergo, and what sort of arsenal were they given? What psychological changes happened to these soldiers, and what were their perspectives of the program before and after. Exploring these questions as well as just more of their appearance overall would be very beneficial!

Additional Notes: I LOVE the Niordi’s super soldier design! It’s very unique, but also still very Star Wars-y. I need more illustrations of the Niordi ASAP, and I would like to further explore the many mysteries surrounding them and their place in the Unknown Regions. If we ever see them in live action, even just in the background of some random project, I would consider my life to be just a little bit more fulfilled. So if you could, help me bring attention to this wonderfully creative species, and make Star Wars acknowledge them and bring them into Canon via future projects!
