Moyn

Last Updated: 11/10/2023

Name: Moyn

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beast

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Brown

Biology: The Moyn were a sentient bipedal humanoid, known for their plump bodies and the slick brown fur that covered their entire bodies. The Moyn stood between 1.5 and 1.8 meters in height, with stocky legs and protruding stomachs. Their arms were large and muscular, ending in hairless, brown, five-fingered hands. Their heads were rounded, with enormous protruding eye stalks. Their eyes were large and solid black. They also had a small cluster or tendrils hanging down around their mouth, and they displayed no visible nasal or aural cavities. Moyn also had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic.

Lore: We have yet to see any sort of collective Moyn society, nor even their homeworld as of yet. The Moyn we have seen appear to have criminalistic tendencies, often holding positions of power. Whether this is indicative of the species as a whole, or whether every instance so far have simply been outliers, we cannot yet say. However, they have appeared already integrated into the greater galaxy as early as the Clone Wars, and they were already known by the Galactic Republic, although it is unclear if they were actually affiliated with the Republic and Senate or not.

Legends/Canon: The Moyn have only appeared in media from Star Wars Canon, such as the Rebels animated series and the last season of The Clone Wars (although they are actually based on an early piece of Ralph McQuarrie concept art, which was created long before the Canon/EU distinction).

Unexplored: There is yet a lot to be explored in regards to the Moyn. First and foremost, we need some establishing lore such as the name and environment(s) of their homeworld, their origins and history, their species involvements in galactic events and overall allegiances (if any), their governmental and economic structures, their traditions and cultural norms, their unique biological aspects (again, if any), and how the galaxy viewed them, whether usually as criminals or otherwise. There are so many things that require fleshing out and exploration, but at the very least they already have a distinct design.

Additional Notes: I spent so long wondering what the name of this species was, and somewhat recently they FINALLY gave it to us (as well as the names of 3 other previously unidentified species from the animated series). Since we know that Star Wars still has them on their minds, we can only hope they will receive more and more appearances and lore. But in the meantime, I would definitely encourage you to include the Moyn in whatever fanfiction you may be working on. We know for a fact they make good crime bosses, but as it stands, they can really be used for any role you might still be trying to fill!
