Biology: The Danzikans were a unique, swamp-dwelling creature that could be encountered in the Star Wars galaxy. They were approximately 1.5 meters from top to bottom with oddly shaped bodies and nontraditional proportions. They had either six or eight limbs, dragging their round, wrinkled bodies with four to six small legs that lacked any sort of toes or claws. They also sported a small tail that may have assisted with locomotion. And they had two long, flexible arms that extended from the lower front portion of their body, each sporting two wideset, clawed fingers.

Danzikans were covered in thick reddish-orange skin that was covered in mottled spots and was extremely wrinkled, especially around the chest area. Extending from this wrinkled torso area were two long necks, each sporting a separate but identical head. These heads had four bulbous, black eyes each, giving the Danzikans a wide field of view. While their mouths may have also been obscured under their hanging tendrils, they still displayed no visible nostril or aural cavities either, potentially using their tendrils and antennae as sensory organs in place of them.

In fact, we know that the two antennae on each of their heads were advanced sensory structures, covered in small hairs that could detect slight changes in a number of environmental factors. Like many two headed sentient species, Danzikans possessed two separate brains, each with their own distinct personality and identity. This technically meant that while each Danzikan was a single being, they also counted as two individuals. Still, they had something of a shared consciousness, able to communicate with each other without verbalizing.

Lore: Very little is known about this species. We know that the Danzikans are swamp dwellers, and usually reside on their marshy homeworld of Danzik. They have above average intelligence due to their two brains, and each individual head takes on a singular name such as “Lark and Jonk.” For whatever reason, the Danzikans forgo wearing clothes. They are also known for being sly and crafty, using different heads to accomplish different tasks at the same time. Danzikans were discovered as early as the High Republic era, and were known by the Galactic Republic well before the events of the Galactic Civil War.

Legends/Canon: The Danzikans are exclusive to Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: There’s a lot we have yet to learn about the Danzikan. When were they first discovered, who was it by, and are they a part of the Galactic Republic with a seat on the Senate? We know their homeworld is swampy, but in what way? What do their environments look like, and is it tame swamps still fit for outsiders or harsh swamps that are difficult for non-Danzikan to traverse? Do the Danzikan possess cities and technologies, or do they simply dwell out in the wild of their homeworld? What sort of language does the Danzikan speak, how do they communicate, can they pronounce Galactic Basic, and do they even have true mouths?

How do the Danzikan’s think and view themselves given there are two persons per one body? Do they see themselves as a collective entity, or completely separate and just unfortunately bound by one form? Why do they not wear clothes? Is it because they could not remain clean in the marshes, is it because they never found the need for such a construct, or is it because manufacturers simply do not make clothes to fit their body type? How many Danzikans are out in the galaxy as opposed to ones on their homeworld, and were they ever caught up in any major galactic events? There’s a lot here that would be great to explore in the future!

Additional Notes: I definitely think this is an underappreciated species with a fairly unique premise. This is like the fourth two-headed, two-personality species we’ve seen in Star Wars, but their design is unique enough to set them apart. Glad we’re starting to see them in The High Republic media, so I hope they continue to grow more and more prevalent as time goes on!
