Sorrusian

Name: Sorrusian

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Sorrus

Coloration: Tan

Biology: The Sorrusians were a sentient species that were nearly identical to that of baseline Humans save for one difference. On the outside Sorrusians completely passed for Humans, with the same general height, build, anatomy, range of pigmentation, sexes, etc. They even had the same exact organs, and could seemingly breed with regular Humans, however, they differed in regards to their skeletal structure. Sorrusian bones were both flexible and compressible. This made them very limber and agile, made it much harder for them to break bones, and allowed them to contort and compress their body to fit into tight or cramped spaces.

Lore: As far as we know, Sorrusian act, behave, and live nearly identical to that of other general Humans found throughout the known galaxy. Because of their natural abilities, it was much more common to see them serving as acrobats, mechanics, or even assassins and bounty hunters. However, they also often kept the fact that they were not Human a secret as they did not want to be viewed as outliers. Sorrusians still native to their dry, mountainous homeworld also had a reputation for being unwelcoming and xenophobic, despising outsiders and going as far as to threaten the lives of any aliens that visited Sorrus.

The Sorussians as a whole were not officially affiliated with the Galactic Republic, although they were well known prior to the Clone Wars and did exist with Republic space/jurisdiction. And while the Confederacy of Independent Systems did establish a foothold on Sorrus, the Sorrusians did not formally join their ranks either, opposing the war entirely as it brought more and more outsiders. Sorrus had three major capital cities located among unforgiving deserts, and traversal of much of their homeworld was frowned upon. The Empire also had some sort of presence on their world, holding ideals similar to that of the Sorrus natives, although what came out of that was never explored.

Legends/Canon: The Sorrusians are currently exclusive to media existing within Star Wars Legends.

Unexplored: With a species like this, there is both a lot to explore with some aspects while very little with others. There’s not too much left to mystery regarding their biology aside from the general question, why? What about their homeworld caused them to develop their compressible skeleton? And to what extent can their bones be stressed or compressed before they eventually reach a breaking point? Also, how did they develop on such a harsh world such as Sorrus? Were they descendants of a long lost tribe of Humans who were forced to make lives for themselves there, or did they have some other sort of unique origin? And if they could breed with Humans, what would a Human-Sorrusian hybrid be like? Just slightly more flexible bodies, or would the outcome be entirely different?

When were the Sorrusians first discovered, why were they never given a seat on the Galactic Senate, and was it due to their general hatred for aliens and outsiders in general? On that matter, why did the Sorrus natives harbor such intense xenophobia? Was it simply because they were afraid of the unknown, or had something happened to them involving non-Near-Humans sometime in the past? What percentage of the Sorrusian population was out and about in the galaxy? And what were their perspectives regarding the Clone Wars, especially when it came to their planet? How did they feel about the CIS and/or Empire setting up shop on Sorrus, and did they favor any factions or were they consistently opposed to any offworlders who crossed their paths regardless of ideology?

Additional Notes: There’s really not much to say here. Very little uniqueness surrounding their outward design, which isn’t the worst thing as they sort of have a reason for looking the way they do. And the added bonus of their natural compression abilities is quite fascinating. But at the end of the day, we may have seen a Sorrusian in a film or television show and just never known (if they do make their way into Canon that is), so it’s a bit hard to spot a Sorrusian character without having it plainly spelled out.
