Name: Toma

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beast (Feline)

Homeworld: Oznek

Coloration: Green

Biology: The Toma were a humanoid feline species with a few unique traits. They possessed the same general height, build, and appendages as the average Human, however, they also had bright green skin. The majority of their bodies were covered in long green hairs, concentrated on their forearms, legs, and chest, as well as forming a long mane around their head. Their hairless hands also sported sharp, green claws. Toma had solid yellow downturned eyes situated under pronounced brows. They also had large, flat brown noses that were felinoid in nature. And they had noticeable underbites that allowed their sharp lower canine teeth to rest outside of their lips when their mouths were closed. Like most species, Tomas had the capacity to pronounce Galactic Basic, although their native tongue is unknown.

Lore: The Toma were found on the lush planet of Oznek, a world strategically located within Republic space. They were less advanced than many species in the Republic, but don’t necessarily qualify as “primitive” either. They were also rather isolationist in nature, sharing strong bonds between each other, and rarely appearing out among the greater galaxy. While considered members of the Republic, it is unclear whether or not they held a seat on the Senate. And they possessed their own militia consisting of lightly armed soldiers who performed routine patrols of their homeworld, and supposedly their numbers were far larger than many assumed.

At the start of the Clone Wars, reports of a Separatist Command Center being located on Oznek. A small contingent of Republic Clone Troopers were sent to the world to covertly capture the base and assure the Toma were still loyal to the Republic. However, after fighting their way through a small droid presence and losing almost the entire fireteam, it was revealed that the “Command Center” was actually a crucial Toma power plant. The invasion had been a ploy by a traitorous Republic officer and a rogue clone to make the Republic look evil and force the Toma to ally themselves with the Separatists who were offering them protection. Fortunately, the plan was foiled, but the Toma did still suffer casualties and their allegiances or fate following this event was never revealed.

Legends/Canon: The Toma are exclusive to one comic from Star Wars Legends.

Unexplored: As with all Legends-exclusive species, their adaptation to Canon may be translated essentially word-for-word, very loosely, or may not resemble their Legends lore whatsoever, so canonical exploration can really go anywhere and cover anything. However, if we were to explore them as if the lore they possess still stands, then it would be nice to have answers to questions such as: When were the Toma first discovered and how long have they been a part of the Galactic Republic? What was their government, society, economy, culture, etc. like? What happened to them during and following the Clone Wars? Why was Oznek and the Toma people so important? Were there any Toma out among the rest of the galaxy, and if so, what would both isolationist and galactic Toma’s philosophies resemble?

Additional Notes: The Toma are.. interesting I guess? There’s nothing all too remarkable here, although they are rather unique for a more feline species. I also really like the art style in which they’re illustrated, although I’m curious what they would look like in a much more cartoonish light or even in live action?
