Imroosian

Last Updated: 3/12/2024

Name: Imroosian

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human/Mineral

Homeworld: Imroosia

Coloration: White or Tan

Biology: The Imroosians had a generally Human-like height, shape, build, and some anatomy, although there were at least a few external differences. They had white, gray, or occasionally tan skin that was said to have the texture of chalk or flint. This dry skin was covered in natural cracks and lines, often fairly symmetrical in nature, though not always. They also had an incredible resilience to heat, developed from generations of dwelling on their volcanic homeworld, though that didn’t necessarily mean they found scorching environments comfortable. Their necks were slightly longer than the average Human, their eyes were surrounded by dark circles, and the top and back of their heads had a number of jagged protrusions. Imroosians had the capacity to speak Galactic Basic, although they also had a native tongue simply named “Imroosian.” The species were known for being naturally quite intelligent, and they could also be Force Sensitive

Lore: The Imroosians were the native sentient species of the Inner Rim planet, Imroosia, a world covered in volcanoes and known heats so intense that it was completely inhospitable for most species. Many Imroosians have long since left their grueling homeworld and dispersed throughout the galaxy, often putting their intelligence and resilience to good use. It would seem many avoided their homeworld, or had no desire to return or even visit for the first time, simply based off of the stories of how dangerous it was. It is strongly believed that the Imroosians were a part of the Galactic Republic given their prominence and the location of their homeworld, and during the High Republic, at least one of them was a Jedi Knight (and Archivist). Others were allied with factions such as the Rebel Alliance and Crimson Dawn criminal empire, so there is little else to go off of to gauge their true collective allegiances, that is if there were even enough members of their species left on Imroosia to even form a functioning governmental system.

Legends/Canon: The Imroosians are a Canon-exclusive species. One Imroosian, the young girl Agira featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, was seen with dark brown hair. This has raised some questions as to whether or not the species was truly capable of growing hair, if Agira was maybe an Imroosian-Human hybrid, or, given the context, if she was simply wearing one of Princess Leia’s wigs. Presumably the out-of-universe explanation is that the child actress who plays Agira did not want to shave her head, a perfectly reasonable notion, yet it still certainly opens up some continuity rabbit holes that currently remain unanswered, such as if Imroosians possibly lose all the hair they were born with at a certain age, if all instances we’ve seen so far shave their head for fear of it catching fire should they visit Imroosia, or if there are potentially different subspecies with unique traits such as the presence of hair and unique skin tones.

Unexplored: There’s still not much known about the Imroosians, so they’re definitely due for some additional exploration. It would be great to see more of their homeworld, whether through description or illustration, and maybe we could learn about some of the things, if any, that set it apart from other volcanic worlds like Mustafar or Nevarro. Were the Imroosians actually members of the Republic, or were they allied with any other major galactic factions or groups? When were they first discovered, what sort of creature did they evolve from, and what were they like before they developed their protective, chalky skin? What are the maximum temperatures that they can tolerate, and what do they think of cooler or very cold environments? Do they actively seek them out, or are they equally averse to them as well?

What is their overall history like, and did they have any cataclysmic occurrences, spectacular events, or large-scale wars in their past? What were their educated thoughts on different galactic eras and events, and when did they first start to spread out to the different corners of the galaxy? Did they have any unique exports and what was the root of their planetary economy, if any such thing remained? How was their society divided, what was their governmental structure like, and what unique societal or cultural practices did they possess? Also, did they have any distinct traditions or religious beliefs, and what was their relationship with the Jedi Order? Was the Jedi Archivist Ru-Ru a rare instance of an Imroosian Jedi, or did they have a naturally high midi-chlorian count and a regular supply of Jedi initiates? I firmly believe answering most, if not all, of these questions will help further the unique lore of an already interesting newer species!

Additional Notes: I REALLY like this design! In my opinion, if finds that perfect middle ground between being very alien yet fairly Human, being easy to pull off in live action without also just being essentially a recolored Human! When I originally posted this article, I spent this section theorizing about how the Fifth Brother might actually be a blueish-green Imroosian, though since then, that has pretty much all but been dismissed. Still, it’s fun to point out similarities in design between this species and a few others, namely the Squamatan, the Shani, and the citizens of the Fifth Brother’s homeworld, Artemesium. Anyway, make sure to use an Imroosian in one of your projects the next chance you get as I need to see more members of this species, and for this species to gain more recognition overall!
