Dyplotid

Last Updated: 11/21/2023

Name: Dyplotid

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Orange, Brown, or Pink

Biology: The Dyplotids are a humanoid species that have been popping up recently in the Star Wars universe. They had the same general height and build as the standard Human or near-Human species (although they were potentially slightly thinner), with two legs/feet and two arms/hands, each with five digits. However, there were some very visible anatomical differences as well. Their skin was a mottled brownish-orange color (of slightly varying shades), with lots of wrinkles around their wrists. Their fingers were larger than that of the average Human, and they had wide, naturally black fingernails.

Their heads were tall and elongated, sporting lots of black or brown hair that grayed with age. They possessed no visible nose or nostrils, instead having a flat, fleshy ridge running down the middle of their face and growing large as it merged into their upper lip (very reminiscent of the Duros). Their most defining feature by far is their four eyes, situated in sets of two stacked on top of each other. These eyes had large, brown irises and were surrounded by large eyelids. They also had the ability to see both the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum. They most likely have the capacity to speak Galactic Basic, although this is technically unconfirmed.

Lore: We know next to nothing about the Dyplotids at the moment. They have appeared during the Galactic Civil War Era and afterwards, although there is no consistent characterization and they hold a variety of occupations and allegiances. They are usually seen among other species and groups who were not allied with the Galactic Republic, so they were potentially an independent species (although this is most definitely not set in stone).

Legends/Canon: The Dylotids are completely exclusive to Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: This is one of the many species of late who have yet to receive any concrete characterization. Of course, this means that all of the basics still need to be covered before we can get into any niche details. These “basics” include things like their homeworld (name, environment, location), their economy and exports, their society and culture, their governmental structure and galactic allegiances, their religions and traditions, and extended details about their origins and history. After this, you can explore things like their extended biology, ties to popular characters and groups, distinct perspectives, or even small species-wide habits or quirks.

Additional Notes: Not the most interesting species out there, especially from among the other unique aliens we’ve seen in The Last Jedi and Solo, however, there is still enough to set them apart. I would like to see more of them, and it’s nice to see them appear alongside some of the other more recent obscure species within the ranks of the “Tech Masters.” Here’s to hoping we see them appear even more soon, and learn what makes them tick, as well as what makes them unique.
