Name: Gallusian
Humanoid: No
Classification: Amphibious/Alternative
Homeworld: Gallus
Coloration: Green
Biology: The Gallusians were a frog-like creature approximately .2 – .5 meters tall/long. They were dark green in coloration, and had slimy, mottled, slightly wrinkled skin that required constant moisturization (although it may simply just wrinkle with age, as the only sentence we’ve seen was considered elderly by Gallusian standards). They had six tentacle-like limbs, each with suction cups at the end, although the front two appeared to be longer and featured more suction pads on the bottom. They used the front two prehensile tentacles to grasp small objects, while the other four limbs had reversed shoulders which caused them to naturally rest upwards, allowing the Gallusian to anchor themselves to whatever is above them.
Gallusians lacked any sort of neck, their heads instead merging directly into the rest of their bodies. Their faces were flat with drooping “chins,” large jowls and lips, toothless mouths, and pitch black eyes with protruding eyelids and another circle of jutting flesh surrounding them. There were also two small cavities located well above their eyes and adjacent to their front shoulders, although it is unclear as to whether these are aural cavities or some sort of gill-like nostrils. Gallusians could seemingly not survive without being submerged in an amber liquid which was supposedly formaldehyde, and could produce sounds which could be amplified by speakers fitted onto their special “travel jars.” Gallusians can pronounce their own language as well as Huttese, but it is unclear if they are capable of speaking Galactic Basic.
Lore: So far, not much has been revealed regarding the Gallusians. They live on an, as of yet, unidentified aquatic world, although the liquid in which they dwelled in was actually formaldehyde and not water. If a Gallusian did choose to leave their homeworld, they would need assistance to be placed into an advanced travel “flask,” which featured filtered formaldehyde, vocalizer, lighting system, and repulsorlift technology which allowed their container to float and gave them control of locomotion (which they could potentially control with their tentacles attached to the top of their flask). It was also possible to attach these flasks to a type of humanoid droid mech suit, giving them even more control over their actions.
Despite their biological limitations, the Gallusians were a fairly intelligent species and harbored many dreams and aspirations which were often outside of their reach. At least one Gallusian named Luleo Primoc did actually become a prominent galactic sex symbol, holomovie star, and singer around the time of the Clone Wars, although he appeared to be an outlier among his species and is currently the only Gallusian we’ve seen among the greater galaxy. Because they were incapable of accessing all of this advanced travel technology on their own, someone or some species had to assist them. Any information regarding this charitable partnership or potential symbiosis, however, is nonexistent.
Legends/Canon: The Gallusians are fully exclusive to Star Wars Canon, with Luleo Primoc making his breakout debut in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Unexplored: I would love to learn more about this… non-traditional species! We need to thoroughly explore their homeworld and discover what makes it unique. Do the Gallusians live in small underwater cities, or maybe they don’t build structures and just live in schools, or maybe they don’t form into a true society and just go about their day without regard for other members of their species? Do they have access to any technology, and if so did they find a way to construct it themselves, or was it gifted to them by others? If so, who, because they would have most likely needed outside help to travel offworld?
When were they first discovered, and by who? Was it Republic explorers or colonists, or maybe wandering xenobiologists? Were they acknowledged as a sentient species from the start, or how did someone make that discovery? Did they have any traditions, or a distinct culture, or societal norms? And had they formed any sort of economy or governmental structure? We know they were rather intelligent, but were they ever made members of galactic organizations like the Republic or New Republic? Aside from Luleo Primoc, were any other Gallusians famous public figures, or even something like a Jedi? And is there an in-universe reason as to why we have not seen any others in the greater galaxy as of yet?
Additional Notes: I really, really want to see more of the Gallusians! It’s not the kind of species you would look at and immediately think they were sentient, intelligent, and… sexy? But here we are, and I just want to know what their homeworld is like and how they manage on a day to day basis. Please Star Wars, give us more Gallusian characters. Or make a comic about Primoc. Or even just show one walking around in a mech suit. I need something, I’m begging you…
