Zuzabol

Name: Zuzabol

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Dwarf

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Unknown

Biology: As of writing this article, the Zuzabol biology is almost completely unknown as like some other species, their bodies have so far been completely obscured. We know that they stood approximately 1 meter tall, if not a little shorter. We know they possessed two eyes, and required a special sealed suit to presumably assist in respiration or just overall survival.

Lore: We know next to nothing about the Zuzabol, aside from the fact that they’ve only really appeared during the Cold War era so far, and almost every instance we’ve seen has been allied with the Resistance, hinting that they may have had some personal involvement with the ongoing conflict and/or First Order.

Legends/Canon: The Zuzabol did not exist pre-Star Wars Disney Canon.

Unexplored: This is one of those species where you first need to ask should they remain mysterious or not, similar to species like the Jawas, Tuskens, or Junkers. Even if their physical appearance is never revealed, we can explore some things like where they originated from and how advanced they were. We see them serving as mechanics, but were they a naturally intelligent species of engineers, or did some of them simply pick up this trade out of necessity? We know the real world reason, but is there an in-universe reason as to why we never saw them in other eras? And what caused many of them to join the Resistance, as knowing that would most definitely make the Zuzabol more interesting and memorable?

Additional Notes: This is an interesting species, as they are almost unnoticeable in The Force Awakens and could easily be mistaken for another small species like the Vobati or the very similar Teedos. And they most likely would have remained in obscurity had it not been for their inclusion in the “Disney Infinity” video game. While not Canon in and of itself, their name “Zuzabol” was later carried over to official Canon, being confirmed by Lucasfilm Story Group veteran Pablo Hidalgo. Since then they’ve made brief appearances in the Poe Dameron comic run and the background of shows like Andor, but I’m still anticipating an appearance in some sort of High Republic media sometime soon!
