Name: Dwuni
Humanoid: No
Classification: Dwarf/Alternative
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Orange or Brown
Biology: The Dwuni were a small sentient species that was introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story. They were diminutive in nature, seemingly standing anywhere from 1 to 1.2 meters in height. Their skin was a dull orange in coloration, presumably the same or a similar color as the dirt of their homeworld. They had rounded bodies with short pudgy limbs, their hands appearing to possess three fingers each. They had large heads and no real neck, with a big chin and lower jaw.
The bottom of their wide mouth was lined with short, razor-sharp teeth, although no teeth have yet to be visible coming down from their upper jaw. There was a single arched nostril located on the center of their face, although there was barely any nose-like protrusion supporting it. They also did not possess true ears, instead bearing “tympanums” or an external eardrum that replaced the need for a standard aural cavity. Their large eyes literally bulged out of their heads, and they had long eyelids to accommodate this. They had the ability to see well underground and in the dark, although they have not been confirmed to be a subterranean species as of yet.
Lore: We really don’t know anything about the Dwuni, outside of the fact that many of them were enslaved by the Pyke Syndicate and utilized in their spice mines like the ones located on Kessel. They were chosen for this due to their small size, which allowed them to climb into cracks, crevices, and even machinery where most other species could not. They also seem to have felt at home in these caves and mines, lending credence to the idea that they were naturally subterranean.
Legends/Canon: As stated above, the Dwuni originated in Canon Star Wars media and have no ties to or origins within Star Wars Legends.
Unexplored: This is one of those species that is still in dire need of exploration and expansion as their lore is beyond lackluster. First and foremost, what is their homeworld called, what environment(s) does it possess, and where can it be found? Are they subterranean, or is their world maybe simply stuck in perpetual night? Were they ever involved in any major galactic conflicts? Did they ever ally with established factions or galactic governments, and were they affected by any large-scale wars?
Are they numerous and widespread, or are they a dwindling species of isolationists? For how long have they been enslaved, how much of their population is free, and were they ever subjugated by other groups like the Zygerrians, the T’surr, the Galactic Empire, or just by the Pykes? Exploring all of this as well as some of the basics like their governmental structure, how advanced they were, culture and art, traditions and habits, economy and exports, or even unique biological or anatomical skills will definitely set the Dwuni to be much more memorable than they currently are.
Additional Notes: Definitely not the most unique design I’ve ever seen, although their unsettling, bulging eyes have burned themselves into my mind… still, they seem to fit the mold as prime target for a species that would be featured and expanded upon in media set during The High Republic multimedia event, so we can only hold onto hope that we’ll see them more before it ends!
