Gotarite

Name: Gotarite

Last Updated: 11/21/2023

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beast/Alternative

Homeworld: Gotar

Coloration: Tan

Biology: The Gotarites are a mole-like species with mostly humanoid features. They had generally Human-like frames, with slightly chubbier features than the average Human or near-Human species, as well as four-fingered hands. Their heads were disproportionately large and elongated, with thick necks and little chins. Their massive, green eyes were located low down on the sides of their heads, their ears situated slightly further behind them. They had massive mouths with large, black tipped tongues, a row of scraggly teeth on their bottom jaw, and two enormous incisors protruding from the top. Gotarites were known for their incredible jaw strength, and could deliver killing blows with their incisors alone.

Gotarites also had three distinct, flattened knots on the back of their head, highlighted by slightly discolored flesh, although their purpose is currently unknown. It is very possible that these growths were extrasensory organs utilized for navigating in zero-light environments, as they were evenly spaced and angled to accommodate the entire back portion of the Gotarites’ head, although again, this remains only a theory for now. Speaking of sensory, the species had no visible nose or nostril openings. Despite the size and shape of their teeth and mouth, Gotarites were capable of speaking Basic, albeit with a high pitched, almost nasally inflection.

Lore: We know next to nothing about the Gotarites. They could be found randomly throughout the galaxy, and their homeworld, Gotar, remains a mystery suspended within Wild Space. The ones we’ve seen all appear to be laborers and miners, and given their inspirations, it is highly theorized that they are a naturally subterranean species. They were often employed at dig sites, with some employed by the “Mining Guild,” while others served or were owned by the Pykes on Kessel, and others still struck out on their own to become prospectors. We’ve only currently seen them during the Galactic Civil War era, but they will most likely pop up in further time periods soon.

Legends/Canon: The Gotarites have only ever appeared in Star Wars Canon.

Unexplored: There’s a lot left up in the air surrounding the Gotarites, despite learning a bit of aditional info somewhat recently thanks to their inclusion in the Jedi: Survivor video game. We still have to ask worldbuilding questions such as: Does the species possess different appearances like gender dimorphism, eye color, or pigmentation? Do we know if they were naturally acclimated to subterranean environments given their mole-like biology? Were they involved with any major galactic events, factions, or organizations? And of course, did they have anything that truly set their race apart, such as a unique governmental structure, distinct cultural practices, anatomical or biological abilities not yet revealed, an economical structure or exports from Gotar that made them valuable to various governements or factions, or any other method of influence over how the galaxy operates as a whole? Exploring this, as well as just establishing a solid history for the Gotarites, will help really distinguish them from other similar species introduced in recent years.

Additional Notes: I am actually a big fan of this unique, slightly unsettling design. It looks good practical, and I want to see more, especially just how much damage they can do with those jaws. Hoping to see more from them, potentially in High Republic media, as exploring lesser utilized species seems to be their specialty, but until then, I may try to work a Gotarite into one or more of the short stories I’m currently working on!
