Poldt

Name: Poldt

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Pale Tan or Gray

Biology: The Poldts were a lanky sentient species known for resembling a couple much more popular species in the Star Wars universe. They stood anywhere from 1.7 to 1.8 meters in height, with thin limbs and next to no muscle mass. Many of their bones were visible under their thin, pale skin. Compared to the rest of their body, their two-toed feet and three-fingered hands were disproportionately large. They had a long torso, with a thin stomach and an elongated rib cage. Their posture resembled a reversed slouch, although their thin necks extended somewhat forward. They had drooping, elongated faces with wide set eyes, flat noses, and low-hanging mouths. They were thought to share a common ancestor with the Geonosians, and they were often compared to Gungans, but no relation was actually ever confirmed.

Lore: The Poldts were never given much lore, aside from the fact that they were a known species in the galaxy, had access to space fairing technology, were compared in-universe to Gungans, and did not wear clothing. No homeworld was ever revealed, and they only ever appeared in one piece of Legends media in the form of Fanta in the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace novelization.

Legends/Canon: The Poldt are exclusive to Star Wars Legends, and have almost no chance to be added to Star Wars Canon given their origins.

Unexplored: As with many of these obscure, one-off species, should they be explored any further, they will require a rather large overhaul. We still need information regarding their homeworld, origins, culture, economy, associations with other species or factions, biology and ties to the Geonosians, baseline intelligence, religions, habits, languages, and more. There is almost no chance that they were not related to the Geonosians, but a deep-dive into when or how they diverged as their own unique species would help characterize both aliens and give a good, memorable origin to this species.

Additional Notes: This species has a bizarre backstory. The only illustration we have of them was actually the earliest piece of concept art we have for the Neimoidians. However, when that species was changed to be an offshoot of the Duros, this art was recycled and tweaked to become the winged, insectoid Geonosians in Attack of the Clones. However, this specific image was also used… “verbatim,” for lack of a better word, for the Poldt. The reason why they chose to do that for the Episode I novelization instead of just using any other established species is unknown, but it was done and quickly swept under the rug, with no mention of them since 1999. They are also often known for looking like a very fleshy B1 Battle Droid (as the B1s in-universe were based on Geonosian skeletons), but that’s really the only way they’ve been remembered at all within the fandom.
