Ozrelanso

Name: Ozrelanso

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Brown or Gray

Biology: Ozrelanso were a species who were incredibly similar (and potentially related) to both Humans and Twi’leks. Many have theorized that because of their general biology, they are actually close relatives to Twi’lek, possibly being an evolutionary step forward or even a potential predecessor. They have thick brown skin, sharp, pointed teeth, and at the very least the males had lekku that hung naturally in front of their head instead of behind as we see with the Twi’leks (it is believed that the female Ozrelanso do not possess lekku at all). These lekku also had more of a rounded tip, and they had a noticeably large aural cavity where most species would have protruding ears.

Lore: Little to nothing is known about the Ozrelanso. They were not prevalent during either the Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War eras, however, they seemed to have allied themselves with the New Republic sometime after the collapse of the Empire. At least one played a role in the New Republic’s Bureau of Ships and Services, a they have been observed within the known galaxy during the High Republic era.

Legends/Canon: This species only exists within Canon, being introduced after the release of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker and much more fleshed out in the film’s visual guides. It was originally believed that the scene that featuring Plesko Marno, the first known Ozrelanso, was cut from the film, however, he was later located in a very brief appearance. The species’ name was also spelled as Orzrelanso in “The High Republic: The Rising Storm,” although this is believed to have been a spelling error, and not an alternative spelling/pronciation.

Unexplored: There’s not a whole lot here developed to even explore. The first thing to do before writing about an Ozrelanso character or even the entire species is to develop a compelling culture, society, history, economy, etc., the usual list of traits I bring up in these articles. This can help you craft an Ozrelanso character based off of a consistent upbringings and past experiences, should they be born on their currently still unidentified homeworld. After that, you can delve into subjects like whether they are actually related to Twi’leks. If not, why did they develop in the manner that they did? What were they doing during then Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, High Republic era, and so on? Why did any of them choose to affiliate themselves with the New Republic? And were they official members of the new government and their senate? After exploring a few of those possible ideas, they can really be taken in whichever way works best, is most fun, and of course, seems the most compelling for the sake of future stories.

Additional Notes: Because not a whole lot exists about this species, I can’t really say how much storytelling potential they have as a whole. If you want a diverse cast of humanoid characters, especially set during the Resistance era, than it would definitely be fun to throw an Ozrelanso in there. But you are going to have to do a little extra legwork to add some form of originality or intrigue into the this collective species, which at the moment, it’s fairly unremarkable. (At the very least we still have the memes about Ozrelanso being discount Twi’leks to fall back on.) (Also, the concept art below is from Martin Rezard!)
